Based on Final Fantasy III's Eureka, so it looks like they're going to keep bringing in old ideas from previous Final Fantasy games and re imagine them in this game.

And aside from their screen shatter like Enkidoh mentioned even each individual knights attack animations are near identical to how they are in Final Fantasy VII.

Right down to each of their individual animations and the screen shatter after Ultimate End.

I mean. To be fair, the name "Thordan" didn't appear before, at least AFAIK.

To be not fair, they still managed to link Fiend and Ravana somehow, and Knights of the Round were mentioned nearly as soon as you got in Ishgard.
