I try to be tolerant of new people because after all we all were new at some point. That being said there is a point at which I draw the line. I main Dark Knight so as a tank I can more or less control the speed in which the dungeon goes. If the healer is new I am definitely taking it easy no need in overwhelming them. If the dps are new it depends on their class/job and the dungeon level. If they're capable of aoeing then I am willing to go a tad faster for the sake of saving everyone time but if they're not then I'll have to test the waters on a couple of pulls and make my judgement then. Now say for example I have a new Thaumaturge that should have Fire II but isn't using it then I will state that it would be handy on bigger pulls. If they refuse to acknowledge me or just continue to single target then it becomes an outright waste. I know some roles do not get aoe abilities until higher levels. Dragoon is a prime example of this. So I can live with the fact that I have to be a little slower and maybe pull less. When it comes to newbies, work with me and I'll work with you

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

I'm all for helping newbies out, I think it's great if they're given the right help they in turn later when they are experienced, can potentially contribute to a more pleasant community down the road.
Putting that aside, if a newbie struggles with something, I won't mind. We've all been there at some point as newbies, and giving them guidance is a lot better than throwing a tantrum that they can't do it right.
However, it can be bothersome when it's a newbie who might bite your head off for trying to help them or offer advice.

I really hate this weak FF SJW response. Of course that answer is "No". (unless sarcasm) It will always be "No". It doesn't change the fact that it is not their job to make sure a new player has a good experience at the cost of their own. There are plenty of sources that can teach the content. At what point is it the new players job to educate themselves? Why is it a Veteran's job to hold hands? I thought that's what mentors were for? It's not their fault that SE attached a reward to the system that (right/wrong) encourages abuse.

well the cool thing to do now is to make other people feel about bad about making other people feel bad.

I have no problem with new players, provided they're actually putting in effort and they communicate that they would like help (if needed).

I have a lot of problems with players that show up with the first timer bonus, say nothing, and then clearly have no knowledge of what the mechanics are. Especially when that lack of knowledge and unwillingness to communicate causes a wipe.

I have even more problems with people that have done the content at least once before and still clearly have no idea what they're doing, though. And those people are often the first ones to start slinging mud around in chat. I do not enjoy being around such people.

It is not. It isn't the newbies job to educate themselves either however, because veterans are not entitled to educated, skilled or otherwise endowed teammates. But I'm sure everyone will agree that they would like to have good teammates in their parties. As such, it is in ones own best interest to not just help newbies become good, but encourage others to do the same, as it raises the amount of good players and thus, the chance for you to get one when you pug. Even if you don't pug however, it makes it easier to find replacements for a static.

As such, even a selfish player would be inclined to help newbies if he's able to see the bigger picture. And those who are not, well...they simply lose the right to complain about bad players, because doing so would render them a hypocrite. That's not the end of the world either.

My tolerance depends on a multitude of factors: the day, the mood I'm in, ect.

Some days I have a three strikes rule, (three wipes, mess-ups, whatever, and either I'm leaving or they are getting kicked) other days, one strike. Every once in awhile, I leave as soon as I see the "someone is new to the duty" message. Also depends on the dungeon/trial.

My driving factor is: I want to get through content with minimal hassle. New / inexperienced / willfully ignorant players, more often than not throw a wrench into that. Sometimes it minimally impactful like a slightly slower run. Other times, I just want to reach through the screen and slap them.

There is a multitude of information out there that is just a google away, and the other 3 / 7 / 23 other people you are inconveniencing because of your inability or unwillingness to inform or better yourself tells me everything I need to know about you as a person.

In the end, it all comes down to - Educate yourself. Don't expect to be carried, have fights explained for you, or think everyone is going to bend over backwards because 'you are new.'
