RMT is now using party invites with their url as a char name

For me, none from Balmung, all I see are BLM's every now and then
but I've had not any of these things going on. No /T in 2 years.

The thing with the extremely overpopulated servers is...
They can't make new spambots at any specific point.

Having a farm bot on the server is much, much more valuable to them than a spam bot, with the creation restricitons on 100% of the time.

*dejected sigh* yeah...I guess you're right. This is the kind of legal loopholes that are opened with the advent of modern technology. People can just reach across entire continents to bother and harass people with the click of a few buttons, whether they're hawking overpriced packs at RMT sites, telemarketers, or "Not Steve" from Microsoft technical supporting calling to "warn me about viruses" on my computer.

Had a couple times where I fought back against the 'microsoft' guys...

Once when they asked if my computer was on, I then asked them to confirm that my computer was sending them data.
They confirmed that, yes, my computer was telling them it was infected.

I then pointed out, that if my computer was indeed sending them that data, why don't they know if my computer was on or not?



Another time I got them to threaten to hang up on me. XD

I received my first one a couple days ago. I'm usually in a party with FC mates when I play, so this hasn't been too big of an issue. However, I can't always hide away in a party, and shouldn't have to.

I really think adding filters to restricted named would help. Since they seem to be using their websites as one part, start with restricting names with any sort of RMT website included in it (the one I got was from pvpbank or whoever). They also literally had "wtsgil" in their name too, so restrict that string, as well as any variants with special characters.

You can't really "take one for the team" as one poster suggested, because, at least in my case, the RMT bot sent the party invite, and it literally disappeared a second later. So unless you have godly reflexes, it didn't even give you time to accept or not, just enough time to see the name/advertisement. Plus, they could always just disband the party. I'm sure there's a way for even bots to do that.

I just reported the bot under cheating (since it was still RMT advertising, even if it can be considered harassment). That was about a week ago, and I haven't received any more unwelcome party invites. I really like the idea of auto-ignoring party/FC invites and trade requests. Without having to put yourself on Busy.

It could be worse I guess, they could just pos-hack their dead bodies to spell out their seller site name. That was a thing in WoW for a few months, where all you needed was a chat add-on to filter out the gold spam.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that RMT will do anything remotely, stupidly, and illegally possible to advertise to you, so just keep recording names and fill out the manual report, and hope 3.5 cross-server stuff doesn't leave huge loopholes for them to exploit.

Yep, in FFXI Gm would be there instantly, I remember when they were using their URL in FFXI it was quickly shut down by not allowing them to use com names, I still wish you can disable party invites unless you want them, if something new happens I am pretty sure they will start using Linkshell invites with URL so that needs to be squashed also.

And this is one of the main reasons I dropped sub and probably wont be returning till 4.1. Tired of the same old song and dance with this game.
