Coil was more successful because it was more worthwhile. There was a major story behind it that tied in really well to 1.23 and the calamity. That alone was the motivation for a lot of players to push through. personally it was the ONLY reason I completed coil in ARR. certainly didn't care about the gear cos it was all junk..

Since then though it's not been worthwhile. Players won't raid for rewards that aren't worth it. The gear is ultimately junk there is no story. And as such there is no reason to even attempt raids. look at midas savage. 240 gear but still junk the second 3.4 landed and raider s went out and got 250 for creator savage....

savage 270 armor that's not necessary for anything isn't a motivation either when players will have 270 armor thrown at them in a couple of weeks augmenting there shire stuff with no real effort involved...

you can see it with primals... a lot of people won't even bother with Sophia ex for 255 weapons because screw that, get 255 weapons from palace of the dead that are just as good.... and they ain't wrong...

The ONLY way Yoshi is going to get substantially more players raiding / taking on harder content is to make it worthwhile to do so.

Look at MMO's of days gone past. FFXI pre Abbysseaa for example something like HALF the playerbase cleared CoP which was widely regarded as the games toughest content. and at least half those that hadn't cleared it were progressing through it to varying stages..

Despite being notoriously hard players still did it because it was worthwhile and the rewards were valuable.. people spent months on end trying to clear divine might back in the day and they kept on trying till they did it because them earing were "epic" they weren't just some junk that you'd chuck away next week... the final chapter of cops boss fights were the same because those rings at the end were again "epic" rewards

in XIV it just isn't the case. everything is just temporary junk that'll be tossed in a few weeks. thus why bother...
even the challenge isn't lasting... coil was challenging and difficult and yet here we are with people 3mannning t13 it for tails even the "final witness" title is now worthless

It's not always skill it's simply motivation. I know my jobs well enough that I can down the a12s dummies even on jobs that don't meet the gear score requirement to enter a12s. so my dps is up there. and I have no doubt I could suss the mechanics in very little time. for me though its simply a case of why bother? the gear isn't worth it. my friends aren't really interested so it's just not worth the hassle.

and I know a lot of people that say the exact same thing.

So wouldn't, by the same logic, it be best to gate the MSQ and thus future expansions behind raids? Because that most certainly would be called a "worthwhile" reward.

The way I see it, raiding just isn't considered fun by most and therefore, people are rightfully asking the question: "Why bother?" Rewards are and will always stay a bribe, a compensation, damages for pain and suffering. A means to get people to do something they don't enjoy (for whatever reason). And similarly, if people rather go do PotD than Sophia EX for a i255 weapon, they enjoy PotD more - which says quite a bit, considering learning and then farming Sophia is faster than getting a Kinna from my experiences. But that's assuming the weapon is the "only" thing people want from PotD and they don't care about the loot pinata that is hoards.
As such, I am glad they aren't trying to "motivate" people with excessive rewards. I think they are already overdoing it in many places.

That said: I personally wouldn't raid if I hadn't been asked to join a static and the social activity is all that keeps me. The raids themselves are just a big, punishing game of memory, which is not overly enjoyable and I can sympathize with everyone who nopes out and rather does something else instead.

    Raids, my view

Personally, I would like to see more POTD-type raiding but they have to open up more floors for ease of finding groups. I have been stuck at floor 100 for 2 months now with no solvent group to play with. I enjoy POTD-it's fast enough, fun and you can earn a decent Kinna Weapon, meet new people and get plenty of scripts and lores. I am enjoying the bard Kinna, which will keep me going until I someday in the far distant future, am able to finish the umbrite grind (NEVER again). My item level is 258 which suits me fine for now. I have no interest and find no fun in dying to ex primals and savage dungeons after waiting forever for a group that has no tolerance for teaching and falls apart after a wipe or 2. On the other hand, the POTD pf always pops in short order so that is where I spent my time to gather the tomes needed to gear up. The balance of time is spent gathering legendary ores, bot items, collectible fishies and selling on the MB mostly with occasional activities with my FC.

    To Quigg

Unfortunately Quigg, world PF won't change things except for the hard core raiders. They will have less of a wait time for groups while an equal amount of mid level and newer player cross server counts just increase equally. Result: they still won't progress.
