Imagine the lag when you have 20-30 people or more at an S rank or Odin and all of them have their birds out.
My suspicion here is that even thought they'll be coded as pets, they'll probably also be coded differently than other pets. I mean, think about it: If they just use the exact same coding that's in play for egis or turrets, it'll mean that doubling power in the open world is the least of your worries, say hello to four bird dungeons and twenty-four man/twenty-four bird raids. No way they'll allow that. So since it's a given that birds still won't be allowed in instances, there's no reason they can't set them up to work differently from other pet in other ways as well. My expectation is that once a party hits eight members, in any combination of players/birds, no one else will be able to join/summon bird until the number drops back to seven just like it is now.
