Real life parallels will never, ever work out.

For what it's worth, fighting monks are popular in fantasy fiction, and they aren't always religious ascetics.

If you want to compare pop culture ninja to historical ninja, nothing will make sense. This is in large part because spies and assassins who are subtle and never seen tend to make for boring elements in an action setting.

Finally, the reason for the comparative lack of front-facing actions among DPS jobs is explained by game mechanics: unless you are the tank, facing mobs in party situations is intended to be dangerous and mostly undesirable.

I dont know if you read my second message or not, but I did state that I dont expect, nor want the PvE to change. I mentioned how standing behind mobs in PvE is better for positioning and it makes sense to keep it that way. other than that, I appreciate your input mate!

You did mention that, and you're right that I didn't acknowledge it specifically. I suppose it just didn't seriously occur to me that the devs would code the monk kit differently for PvP. Frankly, considering how many melee combos depend on positionals that are difficult to land with any consistency on human players who aren't literally stunned in place, I don't think that the devs had PvP very firmly in mind when they originally came up with these things.

(Noting the obvious and then outright explicit sarcasm, but)

It honestly makes a lot more sense to kill an enemy with a giant rock hurled at massive speeds than to punch it. How an Aero III somehow bleeds enemies evenly for an exact duration, however, I will never quite understand. >.>

They can, to a fair extent, as long as there are explanatory undermechanics. But explanation is scarce here, and undermechanics (purposely) barebone.

Which just goes to show how much Monk has changed; its blinding face-punch move (since removed) used to require that we be in front of the target. The current Provoke design, too, was originally a Pugilist skill.
