Well smn has far more movement capability then that of blm but are still good St and aoe they excel, but blm is far more potent single target, it is behind Monk i would say.
Sch is OP, whm you just blame them if stuff goes wrong :>

Nah our burst is either the worst in the game or among the worst in the game, I think Machinist is the top burst at the moment. What monk has going for it is it's high sustained damage.
Monk's AOE is better than Black Mages with Elixir Field, the buffs to Howling Fist, and having a second TP restore, it just can't sustain it as long since TP is ultimately a limited resource.Single target: MNK.
AoE: SMN.
Single target and AoE: BLM.
Big burst: MCH, BRD and BLM.
Balanced burst: NIN and DRG.
Low burst: SMN and MNK.
Jobs with big bursts have abilities to lower their enmity generation and must use them before their openers. Even mid fight where their opener is ready again.
Blm has no party role. Regretfully every other job is more efficient and is less of a liabilty. Why bring a blm when literally every other job out aoes them? Why bring a blm when its safer to use a job with high dmg and less risk like smn or mnk?

Looking at the highest DPS for all 5 savage encounters (Faust Z being separate), I see SMN 17 times, BLM 16 times and MNK 8 times. Not sure what you're talking about.
Blm is near top dps....
Blm has no party role? lol
Yeah ok......
Blm used to be about aoe and burst dmg. Now ill admit that maybe every job cant aoe like blm but the ones that can make it less needed to have a blm around. And youre telling me that blm is a hard hitting dps? Well i believe you. So is that our identity? Single target turret? If thats the case then ill concede to the having no role, but instead ill reiterate the "why bring a blm when a mnk or smn can everything it can and more?" If mnks role is singe target striker then they cover the aoe department with no problem. And if smn's role is a aoe controlling beast then wow, they cover the single target dps real awfully good as well. Thats what I originally meant when I said that blm had no role. Its because all the "top dps" do the same thing, just some more efficiently then others.
Damn no love for smn. Even tho they currently have the highest DPS posted for a9s, 11s, 12s and Faust z. And also highest DPS for 3 of the heavenward primals.
Id say play around with them all a bit :P Honestly the jobs synergy makes it interesting for what you want to choose too. Maybe some "upper" tier playing (savage and aiming for server first etc) can lead to some jobs being optimal, but in the grand scale of things all jobs will find their place in a grp. (except plds get off my lawn you red headed step children!) Example I play BRD and i really like it when i get a caster in grp or a drg :P
If you want that your tank can play properly and that he can deal dps too it is a must. I'm tired of these dpses who think they don't have to use their skills properly to let the tank do some dps instead of spamming the hate combo like an idiot. Play your classes properly and don't make others suffer just because you are lazy...they can but surely must not use them... if the tank(s) are aware of the impact they'll be fine. and as a side note... buffed DW every 60 seconds is calling low burst nowadays? (well... yeah i know, i know without stacks smns are worth a shit but that shouldn't be the generally situation. if we talk about that we can talk about messed up rotations at all for any cls)
