If you want the game to succeed then you will pay because, guess what? If we don't start paying for this game, there won't be a reboot. It'll be a pulled plug.It certainly wasn't because I'm an avid ff fan who only plays the game because it has the words final and fantasy in the title. Or.. maybe it was.. Or maybe it could have been because I bought a PS3 which I don't use, an HDTV (which I do use but could have gone without) and a comphy fricken chair all to enjoy this lovely piece of awesomeness.
I want to see the game succeed. I don't think we as players should have to pick up the tab for SE's major screw up. It's not like they are going to go bankrupt any time soon. They have a lot of money. A looot of money.
There's just no compromise here. The other day Yoshida was buttering us up, telling us that the game is @ 50% complete. Today, we now know we have to pay full subscription price. Why pay 100% subscription for half a game?
EDIT: Don't tell me that SE can't afford to do this. SE has more than enough money to drag this out for a long time. It's a matter of how much growth the company is losing out on, not how much they can't afford to feed their employees.

Unless every one that has played FFXIV votes in those polls, I cannot take that sort of poll or any other poll like it seriously. It must have a huge margin of error. I mean HUGE.
SE has a lot of money, yes but projects are generally allocated a certain amount and they can't go over without getting kicked in the ass in short.
1 year with almost no income and only costs? Think about that for a second.
In the end, shareholders also hold the purse strings. Shareholders that expect a return on their investment in the company. If they tell SE to pull the plug because the project is hemorraging funds instead of bringing in revenue for long periods of time, the plug gets pulled.
If "X" => "I'll leave"

Man, it's getting old.![]()
Let's be rational here, yes I'm sure many people are staying most likely including myself. But think for a minute, no matter what anyone tries to argue the games already low population will most definitely take a huge hit from having to pay subs next month. No matter who what we all want to think, we all know so many players leaving an already low pop game isn't going to bode well, the thriving I've seen on selbina will probably much less so after the subs start and I'm ok with that I guess because there's nothing we can do about that.
Yoshi seems to have known what he doing so far, let's just see how this goes with far less players. If it indeed does become very low populated as in the past that will probably turn me away from the game, all I'm saying is...maybe it's not the best choice to take at this time, but I'm sure for these next huge updates they need the support so what can we do eh?
No they are not just here because it is free. I've played since launch and I played xi for years before that. The reason I am against this scheme is because losing a lot of players now will further damage the reputation of the game possibly to the point where it becomes permanent. Some will leave now,nobody will replace them before 2.0 comes out and if the player base is seriously eroded by then it will put many people of trying the game. I don't begrudge SE a penny to pay for my entertainment but I am reluctant to support an idea I feel may destroy a game which otherwise could have a very bright future.
