Listen to music scrolls anywhere in eorzea! (an idea)

compromising the game's soundtrack. If you can always listen to your favorite song, when are you going to listen to the new stuff?

Er .. unless you actually LISTEN to the new stuff you'll not actually know if there's something NEW that you like!

We can already do this in any inn or housing with an Orchestrion, and we can buy scrolls of music we've not yet heard in-game .. there's no difference, you're making an arbitrary distinction to make an argument against something you appear not to want.

Wait, what? I think there is a miscommunication here. I'm saying that if users can use Twilight Over Thanalan all the time, they may never actually hear the 4.0 music. I don't personally care (I just wouldn't do that), but if I were the game designer I'd be very much against giving users the option to completely ignore a large part of the game. That's all I'm saying.

I believe it would compromise the soundtrack in terms of sales... of the soundtrack. They sell the OSTs for the purpose of listening to your favorite music whenever you want. Just mute the game music, create a playlist on whatever device you like, and go nuts!

There have been times where I in fact did listen to Twilight Over Thanalan on repeat instead of the in game music. X)

haha yes, same here my friend. well i did say "Maybe going into duties, trials etc would just be the original music, but its just an idea," meaning we would still have the pleasure of listening to all new music in the trials, and dungeons etc, this is lik so we can change the music at mist and lavender beds and south shroud

I suspect most (all?) those who buy the OSTs, like I do (I have the two Before Meteor and one ARR OST, not to mention umpteen other FFXI CDs) listen to them anywhere OTHER than in-game, I really think your fear is groundless.

Oh, no fears here. I was just trying to point out that we technically already have an option to listen to any of our favorite tracks from the game while we play; not necessarily that it precludes what the OP is asking for, just that the option is certainly there. Albeit, if so much as one person who would buy the soundtrack to listen to while playing FFXIV decided not to because they had full control of the music in-game, that would technically be a compromised sale. X)

But then there's streamers like myself. If the music is coming out of the game (say I could be sat down during a BRB scene in my apartment with the orchestrion playing), and you can see my character sat down in-game, then yeah, I can livestream that even with BRB graphics. Copyright will be OK. An in-game portable orchestrion, would work the same way as far as copyright goes, because you'd be pumping out the music from in the game client itself.

Well, if you add streaming into the equation, then sure, I can certainly see the unique benefit there.
