That money is supposed to be compensation for having had the house removed from you. If you give it up yourself there's nothing to compensate.

Houses are still supposed to be a gil sink and it wasn't until they actually added the 80% compensation that people started wanting that money to remove their house. When most of us bought our houses we believed that we would never get any of that money back and we still bought it.

I believe you only get like 80% back so you're still losing something.

It would just make people more willing to relinquish their plots instead for waiting for them to time out.

If the game gave them back that 80%, I doubt I'd see as many people in the PF asking for several Million Gil to relinquish.

You'd most likely still see it and as a bonus they'd get 80% of what they paid on the placard back too.
