The amount you get for the 45 day demo?

That money is supposed to be compensation for having had the house removed from you. If you give it up yourself there's nothing to compensate.

Houses are still supposed to be a gil sink and it wasn't until they actually added the 80% compensation that people started wanting that money to remove their house. When most of us bought our houses we believed that we would never get any of that money back and we still bought it.

I believe you only get like 80% back so you're still losing something.

It would just make people more willing to relinquish their plots instead for waiting for them to time out.

If the game gave them back that 80%, I doubt I'd see as many people in the PF asking for several Million Gil to relinquish.

You'd most likely still see it and as a bonus they'd get 80% of what they paid on the placard back too.

It's true that that's when it started, but since it's now the case, people who want to relinquish their houses are doing so by simply abandoning them and waiting 45 days to get that 80% back. So housing has already lost 80% of its gilsink function, whether SE adds the same partial refund on relinquishing or not. All it would do is eliminate the 45 days of extra delay before the prior owner gets their money or new players get a chance to purchase it.

It's already against the rules. To prevent it happening anyway, just add a delay between the relinquish and the plot going back up for sale. For 3 or 4 days after the plot is relinquished (or after an abandoned one is reclaimed), have both the housing ward selection window and the placard in front of the house state the date and time it will go back up for sale. Everyone who cares to check will know about the upcoming availability and be on an equal footing with the person trying to illegally "purchase" it. I doubt anyone would pay millions of gil just to be one of many with an equal chance to get the plot.

Give the prior owner the 80% so they aren't adding in an extra 45 delay when they decide to relinquish it. Then give everyone enough notice so players wanting to buy have an equal chance to do so. And the illegal buying and selling of the plots (and associated hoarding of them) stops.

I agree and that's been suggested multiple times (although I don't like the exact time of relinquishment posted as I think that'll lead to people stacking on the placard), but Square has decided against any sort of change to the system thus far. Maybe someone can throw the suggestion of a small random relinquishment timer to prevent resale for the next live letter? I never seem to find where to post the questions to.
