Could you not be slightly less pedantic and realise that was the OP's intention regardless of what forum he chose?Discussion always implies sharing opinions - what marks the difference between a discussion and a debate is that in a debate, one side insists their opinion to be accepted/right. In this case, the OP is making that the premise of his "discussion", thereby excluding different opinions a priory and preventing any form of discussion.
If you do not want different opinions, then you do not want to discuss and thus you are at the wrong place in a discussion forum, full stop. What the OP actually wants is not a discussion, it's a petition. And this is not a petition forum.
But that's enough off-topic from me. Discussing with "fans" tends to be futile anyhow.
I take general discussion to mean "content that does not fit into one particular category of the game" not "the debating arena."
No thanks.
At some point the future? Maybe.
For 4.0? Hopefully not - I'd much prefer to see the additional selection of playable races receive upgraded, more in-depth customisation especially with the PS3 support set to be dropped.
It'd appease more people - the novelty of Viera would wear off for many pretty quickly/don't appeal to some people at all. Whereas at least one of the current races appeals to people in the majority of cases.
Au Ra were actually revealed at the Tokyo Fanfest for Heavensward, not the first Fanfest of that cycle.
Vegas was pretty barren for Stormblood specifics beyond Stormblood's exists, it's about Ala Mhigo and Garlemald, new jobs are incoming, and look at my Scarlet Witch shirt.
It's likely due to the team needing new things to say at the next fanfests as well as TGS and possibly the Leipzig convention (not sure on that one.) and a new race would be a huge deal.
They can't add a new race and give us more options because? No thanks.

"-We need to expand customization.
*I agree, but adding viera does not mean we also cannot expand current character customization. Why not both?"
"To me, it doesn't matter what we get first; viera or an expansion of current customization. As long as we DO get viera, the order doesn't matter."
...because it would be an immense amount of work, taking a lot of development time away from other aspects of the expansion. Hence why WoW didn't add a new race when they updated their character models (and even they did it far less efficiently than FFXIV's development cycle permits).
~Yoshi P~The issue with the Viera is that, if you look at them, they're basically humanoid save for their long rabbit ears and their heels. We already have a mostly humanoid race with animal ears in the Mi'qote. When we looked at those initial Viera concepts, it just seemed like a Mi'qote with bunny ears instead of cat ears. It simply wasn't different enough. Especially when we did the male designs… they didn't look beastly enough, they were just a little too cute. We wanted to make something that was original to the Final Fantasy series, and to do that, we decided to step away from the Viera.
I was actually strongly against showing the Viera concept art at the event we unveiled the Au Ra at. I knew that people would be like “why didn't you include them?!” [laughs] We feel we have a good thing with the Au Ra, though. If you don't like them, though, let us know and we'll take it into consideration with the next race we bring in.
