    Best DPS after Black Mage

So I leveled a black mage to 60 since I was told that it was the best dps in game for this patch (I could have been misled about that but anyway it is done). However, I find it so frustrating that the slighest fart from a mob interrupts your casting.

Simply doing Ifrit and Leviathon, for example, renders me useless because of all the running around or random fire explosions in the face you receive. I havent even done the normal savage runs with her yet but can already expect the pain awaiting me.

So my question is, what dps is just as strong or slightly less than BLM which is also less stressful or easily interrupted for endgame?

Playing tank, I noticed only ninja and dragoon are the only classes close to ever grabbing hate from me with their dps. Because of this experience, which of these classes do you guys think can come close to BLM\\'s godlike power?

I dont mind not seeing huge numbers but I do love racing with other dps to see who can fill their aggro bar the fastest or keep it high for the longest. Thank you guys for your input!

There's not a best dps as different jobs will excel in different scenarios.

You should give SMN a try if you enjoy magic classes though, mobile and still able to push out high dps. Of course the only thing that you'll have to manage is a pet if even that, really it's just garuda that you'll want on obey.
Also BRD is mobile ... ish, I don't personally mind WM and cast times and can put out good dps.

I guess if you just want to see big numbers though, blm, drg ... maybe mch (only when they do their wildfire rotation) are the ones for you? Personally I haven't touched drg or nin so I can't say much for those but seeing the output/parsing they can do is impressive.

Also don't judge a classes dps by how much hate they're gaining, that's a pretty poor measure. Better to run some parses instead.

BLM definitely has the best raw power. Nothing can beat the wondrous feeling of seeing those 12k+ crits.

Obviously though the mobility is an issue, and the melee classes have them beat there. I'd say that Monk really has the best consistent high-damage output, but the payoff for that is dependency on positioning and that its DPS suffers the most if you drop your combo. Ninja suffers less if a combo's dropped, but also requires the most effort juggling its buffs, debuffs, and combos along with Ninjutsu to maximize its DPS. I find Dragoon to be the happy medium with easily maintained combos, buffs and debuffs, and minimal DPS loss with a dropped combo; which is why it's my go-to for learning new fights.

At least it was until I started tanking more, but you get the idea.

Well of the 2 and if you intend to raid i would say either candidate is fine.
Both bring some sort of utility, Zhane has covered it nicely really.
Dps order at least from what i have seen in countless posts is Monk, Blm, Drg, Ninja... so on
Ninja's though many groups have them because of utility

Do not give up on blm, you will learn with practice to minimize your amount of movement so as to not interrupt spells too much. Aetherial Manipulation is also your friend

To answer your question, BLM probably is the best DPS on turret fights. Outdone by MNK if movement is required (and almost every fight requires movement). Closely followed by DRG and then I think it's all jumbled up between nin smn and then mch. BRD is behind SCH :^)

In the current tier of raiding, in terms of personal DPS, BLM is 3rd, after MNK and SMN. In terms of total DPS, that is personal + party addition, we have MCH = BRD = DRG > NIN > MNK = BLM = SMN. In terms of party utility not accounting for DPS we have NIN = BRD = MCH > BLM = SMN >= MNK > DRG.

than you actually never saw a Brd who can play his cls... but yeah okay i know there are much more good Schs out there than good Brds after all .___.

    @topic
our static have changed the Blm for another Smn cause of the movement-issues...

so i just can talk for our setup which currently is Smn, Smn, Mnk, Nin, Ast, Sch, Drk (MT), Drk/War (OT):
Mnk and Smn are fighting for the pole-position - the one who messes up his rotation first will fall to place 2.

Overall both of them have nearly the same output so yeah... but talking about "best" dps is mostly just theory,
you have to know your cls, know the fight, be concentrate and so on... even the "best" dps cls can fall way behind for several reasons though

Every DPS can have their place in a raid group and excel in different scenarios/fights. Your issue sounds like more of a playstyle issue with blm not being to your liking. If you like ranged all other ranged DPS classes are more mobile. Also if you want to consider a melee as well since they feel very different than the blm turret style. All classes have their challenges but I've seen them all perform very well in the scenarios that their classes excel at.

Oh I thought the aggro bars actually mean better dps, what's it purpose for if not to tell the tank who is about to grab hate due to massive dps? Are there skills that dps may have that just generates enmity?
