His name is "Hildibrand Helidor Maximillian Manderville" in full.
What does "Helidor" mean? Does it come from old Latin?
Yes, I know Hildibrand quests are parody of Pink Panther movie.
So is there any relation to that?

It could be a variant on "Heliodor", a kind of gemstone related to Emeralds, the name of which is derived from Greek and could be taken as meaning "Sun's Gift".
Fitting enough for a guy who's been to the sky and back.
Twice.

and whose father is a supreme god of Goldsmithing![]()
Okay then. that's what I'll do. I'll tell you a story. Can you hear them? All these people who lived in terror of you and your judgement. All these people who's ancestors devoted themselves to you, sacrificed themselves to you. Can you hear them singing?
Helidor is similar to heliodor, which is an in-game gemstone, and his father, Godbert, works with gemstones. It would not be uncommon for a tradesman to name their child after something related to their trade. After all, names like Smith were first attributed to actual smiths, and such names have perpetuated through the ages.
To add, Gemstones had also be used for (Usually female, though there are exceptions) names. Diamond, Ruby, etc. And media such has Steven Universe, Sailor Moon and the Pokemon Adventures/Special Manga had used Gemstones for the names (respectably for the protagonists, some of the antagonists and some of the protagonists). In fact There is a precedent in the Final Fantasy franchise for a character having a gemstone for a name, Garnet Till Alexandros XVII (Final Fantasy IX)
It just dawned on me I've always missread his name AS Heliodor.... I just assumed the GS relationship from the get go.
Hild is a germanic byname element meaning "battle," while brand can mean "sword," "fire" or "burnt", depending on where you look. In this case, his name likely translates to "Battle Sword" or "Sword of Battle."Originally Posted by Gildrein

EDIT: Misread OP.
For Helidor, helios means "sun" in greek and doron "gift."
It's a bit strange how they'd mix the two conventions, but then again, his mother is a midlander. Further, her name, Julyan, is latin (the meaning of which is debatable), as is Hildi's third, Maximilian ("greatest").
While we're at it, let's say that their surname is indicative of origin, as it contains the suffix -ville ("village" or "settlement"). The remaining question being "where is Mander?" Or rather, "who is Mander, and where is their village?"

I always assumed that was "mander" as the archaic spelling of "maunder", which in itself is a pretty archaic word meaning "to moan or grumble" mostly now used poetically as in "the maundering wind".
