Do we have anything on that in the lorebook o.o? I only got a paraphrase from a FCmate that tempering works by pushing the primals aether into the person and from that, it seems well possible that multiple primals could fight over it. But it would also make tempering without the primals presence a non-possibility and seeing as I don't have the book myself... /huh.

Not from the lorebook, but from Ifrit during your first encounter with him:
Forsooth, thy frail mortal frame can serve as vessel to the blessing of but One.

Well, the thing is that SE kinda established that NPCs cannot be trusted to say the truth, but rather what they "think" is the truth. Hence, I prefer to understand how things work, make logical conclusions based on those workings and roll with that than accept what an NPC tells me.

But in the end, it might just be one of those fantasy rules that just "are" and I'm running against a wall with that approach. That can happen.

I've not found anything echoing what the game says in the book yet (and I don't expect to find anything that would contradict it), but the paraphrase is essentially correct, that they "project their own internal aether upon other weak-minded beings, corrupting their hearts and minds, effectively creating obedient followers."

Much like how we learned in-game that the aether of the Primals corrupts it in such a way that it doesn't really flow back to the source, I'd imagine it's a similar concept here - the idea being that the aether of Primals can no longer interact properly with the aether of Hydaelyn, and aether of Primals put inside other beings changes their aether to exhibit similar properties, preventing interaction with other forms of aether (in this case, from other Primals).

So far the only "multiple exposures" information I've found relates to how it can degrade the mind and transform the body following repeated exposure to aether from the same Primal - the Drowned from Leviathan, as we've seen, and very much lacking in proof claims of Touched Sylphs with extended beards.
