I am not fond of the English voices in FFXIV, sounds so wooden. Like just reading from a script, no real emphasis or emotion. I also don't like the sounding of their voices for majority of the characters. Whereas the Japanese voices deliver the opposite which is good. Smooth ear candy. I wish the English voice acting was akin to the ones in Star Wars The Old Republic. They have professionals and famous voice actors and even hollywood actors like Doug Bradley. Would give me a reason to change back to the English voicing.

I think the current voice cast sounds quite authentic, quite a lot of them are experienced actors in the UK. All of the Heavensward voices are spot on, IMO. I'd rather have authentic British actors than American/Hollywood VAs trying to sound English.I am not fond of the English voices in FFXIV, sounds so wooden. Well not all Hollywood actors have American accents, some are English, Australian and so forth. The ones in SWTOR are mainly English and American with a few of a different ethnicity. I like some variety. If we had Ian McKellen in FFXIV, I'd die happy.

Hollywood =/= suitable for the role. Nor does "professional" automatically equate to "renowned celebrity."I am not fond of the English voices in FFXIV, sounds so wooden. Nobody said that, nor was it implied. I meant as separate entities.
I didn't say just any Hollywood actor. There have been certain ones in SWTOR that were fantastic and did a terrific job which is what I used as a reference. There is Kiefer Sutherland as Venom Snake/Big boss in MGSV and he's a Hollywood actor, he was great at that performance. Can't deny that certain big shot actors would be great for some of the roles in FFXIV.

Just like MMOs before it, espeically LoTRO for one, FFXIV shows why voice-acting is very much a liability when expansions come along .. and FFXIV is worse by far due to the fact that in many cutscenes parts of the dialog has VA then suddenly it becomes silent.
Wasn't the only time Tataru actually talked during ARR was in 2.55? They probably didn't need to recast her if they only got one that late.
Not really. It's the fact that we each know our own native languages better than a foreigner does, and are therefore able to pick up on the tiny details that separate good voice acting from the bad. I listen to the cutscenes in Japanese because I can't tell a good voice actor from the bad, making it far more difficult to break the mood, as it were. When the bad english voices fire up, i just groan and all immersion is lost.
