I just got my ninja to 60 in Palace of The Dead and it was the HARDEST thing I have ever played in an MMO. It's easy to play, but if you want to do it RIGHT, it's boderline insanity.

MCH is my absolute favorite, I really like the ammunition system. NIN is up there thanks to the mudras. DRG is probably the least for me but that's because it 'feels' slower, I'm sure it isn't at 60 but /shrugs.
MCH is a hyper-complex mess. DRG is complex, but once you get the hang of it, its easy. I hear NIN is easy.
A lot of people switched to mch at february 2016, when he got some boost (including me). Before it was a new job, that required some learning, so many people continued to play brd. After boost mch became too good to ignore. Later brd got some boost too, but by that time people already leared mch and it turned out to be more mobile job that is better suited to raids, so I don't think that many machinists switched to bards back at that time.
I'm really interested to watch 2016 census by the end of the year.
P.S. I'm playing machinist now, so I'm biased in this discussion, can't give advice to OP. (try them all)
Yes, I am aware of those buffs to BRD and MCH. Looking forward to 2016 census as well ^^A lot of people switched to mch at february 2016, when he got some boost (including me). "BAAAAAARD!" - 2018
Ninja maybe be easy for some people but for some it is the hardest thing they've ever played. That goes for every class because every class is easy to play for one person but can be extremly difficult for another one. And to be honest, every class is easy to play but hard to master.
Silver if you want to raid savage content most people will probably prefer the classes like this: MCH > NIN > DRG because MCH and NIN have both more utility to offer. But you should stick with the class that you can play good and that you like to play. Try them out in PotD and see for yourself what suits you the most.
Take what people say of difficult with a grain of salt. Everything is hard to optimise, even if some jobs are more forgiving than others. I main MCH, so maybe take what I say with a grain of salt too, but if you really want to learn it it's not necessarily so hard that you'll be frustrated. The main things to focus on when learning this class are the opener (probably the biggie?), learning how and when to emulate it again, and keeping a couple of cooldowns in sync between your extremely simple buff->dot->1->2 maybe->3 maybe GCD rotation.
NIN is somewhat fluid. Opener can be a pain depending on when tanks pull such, but generally it's about debuff/dot upkeep through short combos, keeping your self-buff up every so-often with Armor Crush, and effective use of Trick Attack.
DRG is somewhat stricter rotationally, and longer, but while their core rotation is simple enough (buff->debuffs->dots->damage combo->repeat) they have a timer they can refresh as well as consume time from for extra damage, and juggling this is key to maximising the job. They also have several ogcds that require specific usage windows such as a guaranteed crit button and Jump-booster.
Laid out like that I guess MCH is the more complex of the three :P but don't let that put you off if you wish to go for it. In terms of which is more "wanted", well, all of them are very desirable. That said the BRD/MCH slot tends to be slightly more in need than the others, DRG and NIN being about equal. If you do go for MCH, don't forget that you'll also be expected to keep an eye on party's MP and TP and restore it if necessary
...fun.
i wouldn't take mechanics, savage endgame-content, or the likings of others tooooo serious - if its your first cls, choose one and start to enjoy Eorzea, have fun with the story, get in touch with sidequests like beastribes, chocobos, goldsaucer etc. And all this can be done with any cls. Later on you will see there are ways to raise other cls/jobs PRETTY PRETTY fast. so for now fuck off rotations, endgame party-constellations and pro-gamer opinions – just have fun exploring Eorzea by yourself.
thats what every "novice" should be looking for and not... the whole endgame mess up -
"playing this because of that" will catch you up anyway while gaining your "own" ingame-experience.
