I dunno. I think that speaks for itself. Best I could see is a semi-PvP-ish siege map where you are using vehicles and ballista more than actually PvPing with our characters.
If you are suggesting the interest is overall low for PvP, I have a few ideas why:
    1. lack of crafted PvP gear
    2. Lack of armory space
    3. lack inventory space in general.

As a crafter main, I just can't carry PvP gear. Too much space is used for gearing crafting jobs in armory, and in normal inventory, too much items in supplies. So I do not go flow blown PvP. I have 1 PvP weapon for black mage and that is all I can afford space wise. In Wow there was problems of raid gear being so much higher gear level then PvP gear, it blew PvP mains out of the water.

I would welcome word PvP in some areas but the following needs to be addressed:
    1. Top raid gear vs top PvP gear
    2. inventory/Amory space (the fan fest talked about increasing inventory, but what about ARMORY? to fit new gathering materials, no gear, so on, you need to literally double all our current slots, to properly have room for everything. I am at 8 retainers, put the event glamor in the armory chest (not the gear armory I been talking about) and I still hurt for room, and it is still hard to actually do cooking, even with 8 retainers. I did not even want crafting and battle on the same character due to inventory issues, but SE content blocked my crafter and I am stuck hurting for inventory slots, leaving no room for PvP gear.
    3. Job balance, how do less defensive jobs defend themselves? would black mages be easy kills? will a tank/dps vs a healer be a never ending battle?
    4. Gathering, how would gathering +PvP be addressed?

As long as its a setting you have to actually turn on to use (as in only those with it turned can attack or be attacked and can't attack those who have it turned off) then i'm fine with it as at lest i won't get smashed while afk as long as its off on my end... hated when that happened in other games.

What some see as "distracted" is really "fathoming the unfathomable" - last words from an Ul'dahn Mercurial Chemister at the battle of Carteneau

Doesn't really strike me as something that would have enough demand or would really be that fun/interesting. I played on a PVP server in WoW and the only action was the occasional ganking.

As someone that PVPs on most days I would rather they focus on making new maps.

I would welcome open world PvP alot but I just can't see how it's gonna be implemented. Opt in and opt out is one way but could be used to not get killed, if there's not a specific time you have to be out off battle to opt out. If they're not implementing open world pvp into existing servers, I will definitely miss out on it because I will not leave the server I'm on due to friends/FC.

No! No! A thousand times no.

Open world PvP in an RP game is just a bad idea. It redirects dev effort from places where it would be better spent, and creates an environment where thrillseekers and gankers can thrive... and once you open that door it's going to be really hard to close. The problem comes down to if you take over competitive people, put them in an anonymous environment, then let them use that inherent over competitiveness to crush others in totally unfair fights... they will do it by any means available. And you don't want that.

To use a sports metaphor, there's a reason you can't just have 10 people on your basketball team. It would be stupidly unfair! What, will the others guys show up with 15 for the next game? This is "open world PvP", it's not a fair fight. People will seek whatever advantage they can, be it lowbie slaughtering or 2 on 1 fights just because that's the easiest way to "win." And winning is what's important to overly competitive types.

In playing EQ since December of 2000 I only ever ran into one person with a red name (signifying PVP enabled) out of the thousands I've seen there. It just was not a popular thing to do there, and I doubt it will be all that popular a thing to do here.
The big reason why it wasn't popular on non PVP servers was because if a player let the Priest flag them for PVP, that player forever couldn't receive buff spells from other classes. Worse yet, a healer class couldn't even heal them. They could only self buff and self heal, if my memory is right said player couldn't even take a rez from a cleric. It was pretty much the death knell for the player in a raid heavy and group heavy game with no take backs.

Thankfully that stopped being a thing and games now have a way to toggle on or off pvp so open world pvp is a little more viable and character friendly now-a-days.

More options is always better in my opinion and I don't want to hear any BS about 'But muh PvE is worse because they spent time on PvP'. If you could set your status to 'PvP' which enables a duel request or something of the sort then it means that you have to go out your way to enable PvP meaning that anybody who isn't complicit will engage in PvP by accident. In that case, sure!

True but imagine a guy who got beat by a group of 10 shows up with his whole FC to take revenge and the others come back with their FC too. Just thinking of a crowd of 100 ppl battling is awesome ^^ (and somewhere on the hill a solo player is eating popcorn)

No, open world PVP will just bring more toxic to this community.

FFXIV should add more party content, like the job quest & leveling party in FFXIV 1.2x/FFXI

I played WOW before, I just hate it now
I've made a lot of friends in FFXIV 1.2x, the FFXIV 1.2x community is the best I've ever seen, I really miss it,
Yoshi, please, bring back the real FF MMO

Just create one zone with pvp daily questing, event, and such.
