Make it great again? Is it not great now? I certainly think it is. Why do some people always want to talk things down so that they can claim they'll make them great again, when in fact things are already pretty damned great?

Why do so many people complain it's become basic? Because it has. If XIV released sub numbers like WoW used too I can assure you it would be draining numbers. What makes XIV great? The repetitive dungeons? 4 raid bosses every 6 months? Housing which is annihilated by F2P games? One of the most despised features in WoW? Garrisons. But Yoshi loves WoW so he tried to bring them over with Squads. They attempt to add new content - but it always fails because they're too stuck to their own formula.
There's no way 4.0 will survive this. I hate that I think WoW is kinda right in spicing it up each expansion.

Which MMORPG doesn't...?
If I recall correctly, WoW has been losing 2 million subs every expansion since cataclysm. Legion? Too early to tell, Warlords had a big spike at the start too. Not that they're giving official numbers these days because of the bleed. Wildstar went F2P so fast, you might have missed it was P2P at first if you blinked. SWTOR had to go F2P as well, likely due to dwindling numbers as well. Black Desert didn't seem to have been a raging success either and is GW2 gaining lots of players at the moment? Not that I know of. FFXI? The Secret World? Elder Scrolls Online? RIFT? Blade&Soul? Most of them aren't publishing numbers, but I doubt any of those is currently booming in secret.
Meanwhile, League of Legends is the biggest game on the market by far. Dota2 and Counter Strike GO peaked at 900.000 and 591.000 concurrent players today respectively according to steam statistics. And I wager that is precisely where the people who left WoW majorly went - not other MMORPGs, but MOBAs. They come with bot games, so you don't even have to be into PvP to play them.

It's called marketing, they didn't make any innovation to wow ever, but their marketing team is so good that they released a cash shop in a sub mmo and no1 said shame, while here on the other hand.....
Not to mention they actually copied D3 gameplay for an expansion and made you pay for it GG

Difference in playstyles mostly.
Person A and Person B both join the game at launch but take different paths after joining.
Person A is hardcore, was Omni-50 during 2.x and has been Omni-60 since 3.0/3.1. Has gained everything from the GS, has multiple zodiac and anima weapons, has the minions, the mounts, a house, etc. For them, they could feel the game is kinda stale. They have been doing the same thing for some time now. They have few progression paths open to them, and they all have weekly lockouts which retard their progression towards their goals. After Wednesday, they have nothing of personal value to work towards. They are more likely to say the game is boring and needs work.
Player B is less hardcore. They may have attained 50 on one (1) or a few jobs in 2.x and have zero (0) jobs at 60 or a few. They have jobs to level, they could go do stuff in the GS towards the turtle or fenrir or the dances, etc. They could go and do quests, basically, all or most progression paths are currently open to them. They are more likely to say the game is great as it is.
It is simply a matter of perspective based upon your own personal needs/wants and the ability of the game to satisfy them.

Reading too much of the forums makes me very sad and apathetic.
Well said. One thing that makes a good strength and weakness of FFXIV is that it has widespread content that appeals to a wide variety of players.Difference in playstyles mostly.

For example, when I started, I LOVED the class to job system. I really liked that it forced you to play other classes and learn them a little bit to unlock jobs. It resulted in my getting most of the jobs to 50 as I tried each out. I loved that it gave a spec feel to the classes, most notably from Arcanist to SCH/SMN. I thought this was a great design and was anxiously waiting for them to make varied job paths for other classes (i.e. GLD to a DPS class please!). Then came the announcement that they were abandoning classes all together, and all new jobs would be released as jobs. This was highly disappointing for me, and not at all what I was expecting. However, a great many players agreed with this direction. Since that time, the path progression of classes to be unique, have specs etc has ventured further and further away from what originally drew me to this game.
While the game itself is quite good, it's hard to have a direction given that appeases everyone. With having content that is so widespread in target audiences, it's virtually impossible to add content or take direction that doesn't clash with one's playstyles.
Glad people appreciated itI had some fun, but now back to srs bznz.

What I miss the most is the ability to have different races that all share the same Bank and items I would love to have a Miqo'te Paladin and a Roegadyn War along with my Hyur Bard and all of them be sharing everything. But to have them all be so "separated" just does not make sense so I have been forced to have a multi job Hyur and that is it.
In other Mmo's chars could share resources, currency and even Gear and weps this just seems so one dimensional.
