There's nothing funnier than being on a high-end looking NE character in a very, very old map like Teldrassil, even the major city looks better than the starting zone, lol.

Sure people have complained about graphics, but that didn't stop WoW from utterly eclipsing every MMO's subscriber count combined. People want graphics, but its not apparently a big enough draw to MMOs, otherwise WoW would be a thing of the past. IIRC, even when it was released the graphics weren't considered impressive compared to other MMOs of its time, but it still reigned as king.People in WoW do care about graphics. They complained for updated models repeatedly, until they were added.
WoW graphics are also superior in quality to FFXIV. That said, FFXIV has a much prettier graphic design (not a fan of the cartoonish look, despite the higher quality).
Indeed, while I wouldn't say that WoW is a graphic marvel, it has decent graphics. The detail to the environments in recent expansions are most notable.Sure people have complained about graphics, but that didn't stop WoW from utterly eclipsing every MMO's subscriber count combined. That said, there is obviously more to a persons decision to play than just graphics. Things such as gameplay, brand, name recognition, advertising and reviews are all things that WoW has. Even people who do not play video games often have heard of World of Warcraft. However, if you were to ask them about Black Desert Online, I am sure they would just give you a weird look. Final Fantasy also has great brand recognition.
In the end, graphic quality is important, but not the only factor at play when choosing a game. That doesn't mean it isn't a factor.

I think we need to downgrade graphics. Let's go back to 8-bit. So many of those games still have better graphics than "OMG IT'S A PREVIOUSLY RELEASED GAME BUT WITH ONE CONSOLE'S WORTH OF UPGRADES."
I'm not kidding.

For the record, this would not require the effort of actually creating new polygons or whichever. People are not asking for more polygons, they are asking to utilize the already higher texture images that exist in SE's HQ as a option.Nobody is arguing this. What's debatable is whether its a smart business decision to pour so much money into the graphics side of the game, and from their mistake in 1.0, I don't think it would be remiss of me thinking they don't think so.
People going to the newest directx is wholly different from dropping a couple hundred dollars into improving their machine.
1.0 graphics were:
-Poorly optimized
-Insanely high polygon count (unrelated to what people are actually wanting here which is just textures)
-There was no real option to tone down the graphics to a reasonable level, which FFXIV has and people are wanting textures as a toggle, not to mandate the game on all platforms use them, which is very possible.
The textures already exist, and no one's wanting the insane graphics of 1.0, not even higher res textures in our current game would even come close to the demand the original game had.
PS
The flowerpot argument cannot be used at all, as once again, that was about polygons not textures.

I don't want more polygons or new shaders or anything crazy. I just want better textures for PC as an option. I don't get why armors must look so pixelated and fuzzy, ground, and basically everything. Unless you play with a helicopter camera it's pretty obvious the texture res is too low for today's standards. I won't even speak about cutscenes. It's way more obvious and nasty in cutscenes. I don't even understand why they even bothered implement Parallax Occlusion with this low res textures unless they had plans for better textures in future.
