Would WHM be too strong with some support utility?

AST will never be an equal replacement to SCH.

Yet playing Nocturnal before 3.4 was a real pain, and you couldn't even imagine to play it in raids since people where just thinking as you do: "Meh Nocturnal AST is bullshit lol votekick this idiot". LEL
Now the pair WHM/AST is something you can see (already playing this pair since 3.2 but finally feel my shields are usefull to prevents raid wise AOE).

Doing so would create a class that CAN do it all, which is inherently unequal.

That always been SE point, AST has been designed to replace one of those 2 healers, that's why they gave him 2 stances. (Not saying that's a good thing, i would love to see another healer gameplay changing from: burst heal or shield to prevent damage).
But you can finally replace a SCH as an AST having a better shield if the adlo doesn't crits and you could replace a WHM since 3.3.
