The NA servers are not Japan. I feel like what would be appropriate for a "/thank" emote is more of a "light bow" with maybe a single hand motion.

If you want to get Japanese, though, then the /bow we have doesn't even come close to the thankful bow that's done over there.

This is what it should look like.

    JUST. SAY. THANK YOU.

It's sad that people are so averse to socializing that they absolutely need an emote to replace the few things people actually say to each other in-game.

Edit: And besides, the bow we have in the game is meant to be more flourishing and exaggerated like the way bows were in ye olde times. Eorzea isn't Japan so it doesn't need to look like a Japanese bow. I'm glad Yoshi P realizes this.

    ... What the hell?
I never implied that I am averse to socializing nor that we "need" an emote to replace text-based interaction. On that subject, a vast majority of our communication is actually through body language, not through spoken words. You can still convey meaning through your actions in addition to what you say vocally.

Non-verbal communication IS a form of socialization. Beyond that, no one is obligated to communicate in a single manner.

Body language matters in the real world, not a video game. Just say thank you. We don't need an emote to do something that can be done with five keystrokes.

Except this is a game played by real people who use keystrokes to move their characters. Like, it's not as precise, but you actually CAN tell a person's mood through what they do with their characters. It's never going to be as crystal clear when interacting in the real world, but neither is text, so yes, it does matter.

    It really doesn't.

It's not like the two would conflict with each other. If there were a /thank emote, I'm sure most people would combine it with
    /say Thank you!
It would just be nice to make it show up a little better with an actual emote action. It feels more real if your character displays what you're saying rather than having it divorced from the game off in a little text box. Text by itself is too impersonal.

I don't feel like I have to when you unironically think body language matters in a video game with text chat. You might have a point with something like Second Life or some future game where our bodies have one to one control over our avatars, but when the extent of our movements involves jerkily shuddering from side to side or jumping up and down while we wait for the last person to be done watching a cutscene, or typing canned emotes that are often more keystrokes than just saying the message they're trying to get across, you make zero sense.
