Indeed, and if the Ifrit battle turns out to be incredibly difficult I'll be expecting every Guitarcher to shout "Through The Fire And Flames" before beginning the fight.

Well, I thought it was rather a unique idea...

If they go through with this I wonder if Musketeer can use FF13 style gunblades on whatever job they'll unlock. Would be nice to see a combo like that.

I'd like to take the opportunity to say two things that I held back from saying because I prefer to argue as considerately as I speculate.
Number A, in the words of Strong Bad: "...Screw all y'all" for not giving the idea a chance. Based on the art we saw this morning, linking these previously separate entities (which, let's face it, aren't as effective in this generation of games and are the source of a lot of player-opinion conflict) looks not only like a brave and new direction, but a fun and aesthetically pleasing addition to the world of Final Fantasy.
Considering how much thought has obviously been put into every decision made by this team, I'm sure they'll be integrated well. They're not just going to duct tape them together.
Everyone? ... Orrrr --- No, no. I'm better than that.
(No, I'm not.)
Have we learned a valuable lesson about having open minds, or at least not being an antagonistic priss to those who do?

I read about half this thread and this is essentially my feelings on the matter.
Making an archer a bard-ish class would make about as much sense as making pugilists top end healers.

Ok, so how many archers actually use buffs? Its a waste of time and now archer are becomming a buffing class?? Then let the buffs last instad of friggin one time use in that case.
(and saying "you dont have to go bard" would be like saying: you dont have to play. If you play a class you gotta use all it got.)
Why? I can think of 10 top MMOS in whixh bards can and do use bows.
Not to mention, they did say :
"Rather than being advanced versions of classes, we would like players to think of jobs as specialized playing styles optimized for partyin"
this is where they say that --> http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...form-Blueprint

Someone working on Necromancy Skills again?
Anyways. Archer > Bard. Just let it be. Its unique and I am sure later on it will get a DPS job again. Right now FFXIV needs to strive for diversity and this is exactly what its going to be. You can't knock it til you try it.
I thought they wanted to fix the game? Ranged DPS don't fit in this game. Its unique and I am sure later on it will get a DPS job again.
