I'm not really a fan of the "choose materials from the inventory until you get a workable combo and then grind at it for EXP" system AT ALL, but unfortunately, there isn't any other option to make crafting a legitimate class that is advanced by EXP.

I think it's ridiculous.

I would much prefer to level a craft by taking part in long quests; visiting places and talking to people who would teach me techniques/abilities and recipes that I'd use to solve their problems and gain access to recipe books as a reward. There'd be no level this, rank that, success for this or that... etc.

You'd just quest your ass off in whatever direction you found most useful (or in all directions if you were a perfectionist) and when you wanted to make something you'd just open your recipe book, find the item, choose it, have the game do an inventory check to make sure you had the mats, and away you go.

There'd be recipe books full of usual stuff, and then individual hard-earned recipes you had to go out and find to gain access to.

Even the current synth process would be bearable if you only had to do it to make an item instead of grind bullsh!t gimme-recipes for exp.

But, I digress. It's impossible. The entire level system and repair mechanic would collapse.

UNLESS WE GOT RID OF GEAR DAMAGE, TOO! Oh, man....
