While that review was as biased as you can get, MMORPG.com, not shocking at all. I have never gone on there without asking myself, "What will they say to bash such and such this time?". I don't take them seriously, and most people don't.
I will say however, that I will still not recommend this game to anyone simply because everything Yoshida wants to put in place has not been implemented yet. I want people to experience the game in it's new vision, revamped maps, and new systems in the PS3 version, which is obviously the finished revamp of the game. I don't want to recommend something to someone and then say off this will be fixed soon. I want them to play and simply enjoy it, instead of helping build it up. Plus, none of my friends never stay on an MMO that long, so no point really.
So as I agree with the statement, his are for the wrong reasons. The game has improved immensely and is definitely in a playable state. The user interface lag is nearly non-existent, I don't see why this is brought up. It is just as fast to access something as it was in FFXI. The game is built to function with a controller or mouse/keyboard, he doesn't understand why the interface has to be set up in a certain fashion.
Also, just grinding? Sure if you want to PL, which is being readjusted. Yet, there is a bunch of things to do to level such as side questing, lv.15 and 25 dungeon, and so on. While the best method is grinding, the options are available. He also needs to get out of the state of mind that guildleves are the main focus of the game, this is not true anymore. Guildleves are simply a method of gaining EXP and gil. It is good for the solo players and in no way is the guildleve system enforced upon you. Why overly criticize it?
He also doesn't mention how the difficulty of end game has people hooked in and eager to defeat Ifrit. Needing to build up your gear to be able to face him. He doesn't mention that the game has right now long term goals, which it didn't have pre-1.19 and is a common method practiced in almost all other MMOs.
He doesn't know what he is talking about and obviously the only knowledge he has is by reading what others have said and not truly experienced it himself.
