FFXIV 2nd expansion: Viera-like race still a possibility?

I would not be surprised if the next race shared body type with lalas to create an illusion of diversity... short fat Viera bunnies, maybe with patches of fur here and there ^.^"

Amusingly, I mentioned the possibility of a new 4.0 race to a couple people in my FC, and they both want a cute race. I showed them said Viera concepts, and one said she'd Fantasia so fast to the cute rabbits.


Different strokes, as it were, but it does make wonder in making a stocky race would make the mods to gear for Lalafell more cost effective if they have 2 races with similar builds verses one (albeit, very popular) outlier compared to the other 5.

No, that was some of SE's concept art they showed during F.A.T.E in Tokyo.
Yoshi-P didn't want to show them because he knew people would want them but showed them anyway....

? But there's nothing special about Viera feet. They're just normal human feet. In XII, Fran affected rather weird looking stiletto heels, but that was part of her gear, not her feet themselves. (And in tactics, Viera generally wore more typical flat or short-heeled shoes.)

As for their hands, I can't quite tell in the Tactics version. Some Tactics Viera seem to have claws, but others don't. In XII, their hands have a bit of a claw-like point to their fingernails, but not enough that duplicating it here would require special gear.

For that matter, most of the notion of Viera as being pretty comes from the fact that the XII Viera affected sexy looking outfits. (Their faces are rather too pinched to be pretty looking.) In XIV, they'd have the same gear as everyone else, so nothing inherently sexy about them.

Very definatly opinion based i supposed cause their faces are so exotic and gorgeous to me with their angular brows. The viera have a very pouty good look think going on that isnt in this game. All the other races other than rogyden pretty much have wide eyed deer cutsey faces. And theres really not a viable option for people that want a mature looking woman. If you dont want her to be a bowflex model. Also viera hands and feet were very much elongated at the fingers and toes in 12.like almost 2 times as long as normal. Watch a video of frans 3rd (?) mist technique the one where she throws the ice it zooms in on her hands

No sir your leading a fan based subscription game if a massive chunk of your fans want something you give it to them or you stop making money. Especially with childish lines like well i dont like them so screw what my fans are asking for.

While I can't disagree with the fact that there likely is enough demand from both sides of the pond for a Viera race to look like a good investment, that wasnct the complete reason Yoshi-P didn't want to add them for 3.0.

Though he isn't a fan of Viera himself, he simply wanted to give players an original concept before offering a remake of a classic race. His concern was some players who didn't play for the over-arching FF cannon might see them as Miqo'te 2.0, and that Miqocte were so popular he assumed it satisfied plenty of players who desired animalistic races.

This is the reason I've wanted the Viera. I want a more mature-looking, tall and elegant, graceful character. Aside from the Elezen, no one else has the "full grown mature woman" feel. Roegadyn are the giant amazon beast women, Lalafells are the obligatory token "tiny race", and the other three are the cutesy anime teen girls...

If they were to remain relatively similar to past games, the longer legs and heels is the reason I want them.

If that was the case, then I have to say they failed. Au Ra aren't all that creative of a race to begin with, and while none of the races we currently have are, Au Ra also don't have the personality/society/world building/characterization that the others do. They feel like someone's OC insert. You could probably delete all of them and replace with hyur and nobody would notice. If I ran into the N tribe and they were hyur, it would be immediately noticeable what was off. I can't honestly even think of what their naming convention is. If you were to spit me out a name for any other race, I'd be able to immediately identify it.

The Au Ra namimg conventions are weird.

Xeala use surviving ancient Mongolian names, with their last name being their tribe. Raen use 14 century era Japanese names. The Xeala were comparatively spoiled in this, as there is a small blurb for each and every tribe on the lore forums here.

.... And that's it. Their decision to base the names of real Asian names inadvertently put a damper on the lore. It doesn't help that Au Ra are so rare in the "wild" that we don't really have events that delve into their background.


But, if SE carries the names used in FFXII, then they may use Icelandic names and spellings for at least one of the clans for Viera.
