As someone who mains a ninja but enjoys healing, I absolutely hate tanks who "like to do big pulls". Even if they can handle it. Why? Because they tend to do it even if the group doesn't have much in terms of AoE DPS. As a ninja I literally only have 3 spells that deal area damage. And one is a DoT. Also it really is a kick in the nuts for melee dps if you have ten mobs all doing overlapping AoE attacks that you have to somehow run away from, instead of doing your job. If all goes to hell, they just say: I like big pulls. deal with it.
At least as a healer I have a choice to not heal them if they are jerks. I always dps when nobody is in danger. As a healer I feel like a strtegist. I control the battlefield. Buff here, healing there, damage there, debuf fover there.
That's funny, as a NIN like big pulls, but if you don't have a BLM or SMN and the Healer doesn't help it can take a bit too long. Now that I have Stoneskin on my SCH, I love them as a Healer too. It's fun doing more DPS than the DPS.As someone who mains a ninja but enjoys healing, I absolutely hate tanks who "like to do big pulls". Even if they can handle it. Why? But the NIN AoE is pretty good. Katon, Kassatsu, Doton, Internal Release, Death Blossom until you need to refresh Huton is pretty effective. It's no BLM but it makes short work of most groups.
BLM only has two realistically useful AoE spells, so the amount of spells shouldn't be a concern.
Just passing by to say that if they add Stun to Gravity on 3.4 I'm gonna riot. SERIOUSLY
I agree, White Mage should at least have the advantage of high crowd control over other healers to complement their stronger healing. I wouldn't say no to a Noc exclusive buff of some sort on gravity tho. :P
Like gathering all nearby enemies to the target of gravity.
THIS, omfg. I was in a group with a tank who was doing big pulls with two less-AoE inclined DPS. I was on whm but had little chance to Holy because he wasn't managing cooldowns. So I can't help dps since I'm babysitting his health that keeps yo-yo'ing and the poor DPS were doing what they could to whittle these massive pulls down one at a time and utilizing AoE abilities as they were available. It took forever and we would have been so much better if we'd just kept to smaller pulls where I could push out more DPS. Tanks, please look at the party makeup and gear and use that to gauge pull size, not just mass pull because you like it.
Yeah, like I said it depends on the party makeup. But since you mention Doton, tanks seem to take it as a challenge to find a spot outside of its range and drag everyone there. Seriously. They also love to kite enemies over half the dungeon in parties with only melee DPS. Not that the other roles are better mind you. One of these days I am going to make a thread where I list all of these messages players of one role have for the others.
There are some healers who actually ask for bigger pulls even though it is for the tank to know how many aggro they are confortable to manage. Especially with constantly having to deal with tank pets from summoners.
DPS tend to run away from the tank on their own in PotD and also love to pull mobs before the tank. Today I also had the displeasure of a non english speaking group that still qued for english in PotD. The tanks HP melted like butter (probably forgot to use any ability that mitigated damage), the bard ran away and aggroed mobs while the tank was AFK, and the black mage constantly stayed in melee range and ate up all the aoe damage.
They could give it a slight damage boost (20 potency) so that it evens out with White Mage's other AoE spells.
Gravity is weird. I know it would be hell to balance if it really halved the remaining health of enemies, but now it's just gravity in name only.
