Because generally this is the hardcore group with more gil then they know what to do with anyways. As they play to be world 1st or have the best weapons. They have a passion that most other players don't...

There are many people in my FC that don't have 500k to there name. There are 2-3 that hover around 2-3m and there is myself my Hubby and one other that all have 20+m...

But I agree. 50k for savage. 10k for normal Raid. Vote Abandon 50k. Vote Kick 10k.

A lot of things has to do with glamour (titles, weapons, mounts, clothing, gears, pets, houses, dyes, fantasia, online codes to certain outfits). RMT on its own does nothing. on TV we have many ADS telling us buy this or that, get a loan for this %, etc, etc, etc, but no everybody does what an AD tell us what to do. It comes down to people compulsion to buy or "I must get" attitude (mostly referring to the people who are addicted to buying gil)

That's been said before, and I agree that gil from dubious sources may be driving some of this, there has to be a fairly significant amount of tainted gil in circulation given that RMTs continue to survive and thrive...

Generally, in the past people have jumped on anyone suggesting such things as if they are somehow making personal accusations. In those instances I can't help wondering whether the guilty dog barks first...?

    No.
While at the beginning the price of a new item is high, it drop other time until someone buy it. The price start to increase with the amount of buyers.
So the problem is the gil buyers, who want to have the item now and can't wait until the price drop.

Another solution to get something cheaper is leveling up a crafter yourself. Most time the mats are cheaper than the finished product.

It's mostly a game play style thing.

Asian gamers are not averse to grind, Western gamers tend to be. Most of the buy and sell is 'lazy transaction'. I grind where you don't want to and you pay me in Gil.

I suppose the only real question I might have is, if it's such a sellers market, why aren't you selling?

Conversations like this tend to get lost on so many people, because many millennials really don't understand economics. Lot of Bernie Sanders socialists running around in the gaming world, and they dont understand the value of currency or rules of economics. Kinda how they want Free college, Free healthcare, some even demand free housing, but also want to be paid $15/hour to make a cheeseburger; and they want the government to mandate this from the top down. The fact is the in game economy is set by supply and demand. Why is something 3,000 gil instead of 2,000 gil? Because its worth 3,000 gil. Why dont I sell it at 2,000 gil to help you out? Because its worth 3,000 gil. You arent going to see a market where things sell below cost of production. If you're unhappy with the economy on a server, you should just switch servers, OR, you know, actually insert yourself into that market and make profits yourself. There are many factors that govern why something may be more expensive on one server than on another, but it always boils down to the same basic economic principles.

Seriously, if FFXIV is not enjoyable, what's the point ?

I spend my mornings before reset gathering and I make a ton of money doing it. I sell what I gather at the going rate whatever that may be. The price of mats has gone down because the number of gathers have gone up with ironworks gear although it still takes some effort to unlock nodes. Crafters benefit from that as does the economy in general when prices get lower.

Buying anything right away will always cost a fortune. Some people just don't have patience to wait for things to drop in price.

I don't see what Bernie Sanders has to do with this. I'm a "Bernie Sanders socialist" and I understand economics just fine. No need to bring politics into this.

FFXIV is multi-faceted. You can enjoy one part of it and not enjoy another.

Most people do not understand socialism, nor how it differs from communism, and socialist tends to be thrown around more as an insult and less as a description of an economic theory or political system. Sad really, some people could stand to learn a lot. But as you say, there is no need for politics to be dragged into Eorzea, we already have far more than enough partisan bickering in the real world , Eorzea needs to remain free of that BS.
