I really dislike the repair system... it pretty much forces you to pick up crafts, or else you're stuck either paying extravagant amounts of gil for repairs by NPC. PC's don't even count, because most people don't bother to look in your bazaar anyway and if they do it takes forever to find people who will repair your gear for a reasonable fee. If it was just like... one universal method of repairing things (repair hammers, like in oblivion), then I'd be totally cool with it. The fact that I have to get my crafts pretty high just to repair something really bothers me, especially when my crafting rank is required to be higher than the armor itself.

a couple misconceptions you have there

your crafting rank can be 10 below the item you want to repair, it doesnt have to be above
also, those of us who do alot of repairing at camps check every time we get to camp usualy(i know i do), but sometimes the really high level gear can be an issue, in those cases you need to learn to suck it up and throw out a shot(alot of people hate doing this, yet it really is effective, just be sure to be specific as to what you need)
as for asking for extravagant prices, im curious what kind of prices youve been asked to put up for repairs. most of us are happy with 3k per piece....(a few exceptions as some stuff, electrum for one, costs much more then 3k to make)

Ok, I know from experience this isn't true. I tried repairing a lv20-something robe with a lv15 weaver, and my attempts failed 8 times out of 10. That's a HUGE waste of materials.

I didn't say people charged a lot. lol
The repair NPC does. As it stands right now it costs about 40k to repair my gear at an NPC.

ah ok, so you were within 10 levels and were able to repair the item

when people say they cant repair an item, i take that as not even being able to attempt it.....but being 5 below optimal level is still being able to repair it, even if its not super succesful right off the bat(so i just misunderstood what you said basicaly)

and yeah, i misread your extravagant fee thing too, people usualy will repair you for reasonable fees(offer 3-5k even, which is rather easy to get, and youll get repaired real quick)
theres also a reason you rarely see people offering alot for repairs...its cuz they already got their repairs....something maybe to take a hint on.(not saying you should pay alot, but it does help to get stuff repaired that much quicker)
