She's saying that she calls people "he" or "she" depending on what gender their character is, unless corrected, in which case she'll call them "he" or "she".@Magic-Mal: ... You are dealing with a type of game where the main characters you interact with are real people, with their own identities and feelings, behind avatars. I mean, sure I can understand you naturally slipping up with gendering someone as an instinctual response (I admit to doing that from time to time), but to willfully excuse yourself for a reason like that is really irresponsible on your part.
How is that offensive at all...?
Let's keep the SJW crap out and keep it on topic. Is FFXIV too feminine? My answer is yes, but so what? There is enough glamour to go around to "manify" the girly outfits that come out. I hated how the Ifrit themed outfit had a bustline. So much potential for an awesome piece lost, but oh well. I just glamoured the Hell out of it and made a awesome looking set in it's place.
Generally speaking statistics don't really back up your claim about cute female characters being guys. Statistica (marketing demographics & statistics) says that in 2014 40% of MMO players were female. The only substantive research on player/character gender (that I could find), suggested that for male players they play male characters about 85% of the time and for female players they play female characters 97% of the time (this is from the Daedalus Project).
The point being that statistically it's extremely unlikely that "90% of the cute female characters you see running around are guys", it's far more likely that many of those female characters are female players, and as far as I know, cute female characters are just as aesthetically pleasing to women as men, more-so perhaps given the faux-machismo that so many male players seem to adopt while deriding all things feminine.
The game is neither too feminine nor too masculine. There are MMORPGs that are too masculine and also games that are overtly sexualized. FFXIV is not one of those, it walks a pretty good balance between feminine and masculine, and plain vs sexy gear options. The biggest issues with regard to masculine/feminine are the ones already outlined by myself and others. DoM gear does tend to be less overtly masculine and is sometimes overly feminine. On the flip side DoW gear is generally overtly masculine often to the point of negating the gender of the wearer. Both of these situations appear to be an opportunity for better gear design and variety. There is also a lack of dimorphism in gear - in other words gear sets that have both masculine and feminine versions, rather than a single option. This too appears to be an opportunity for SE.
Playing a gender different from your own biological gender is not generally (IMHO) about expressing an LGBT agenda, nor is it about suppressing/oppressing anyone, or making light of the difficulties that those in the LGBT community face on a daily basis. Playing a different gender in a game is about personal preference, character, role play and fiction.
Indeed.

I'd question your (rather skewed) definition of what is the most "slightest most minor of things" if I were you.
But whatever, it's pretty clear to me you guys have the reading comprehension of eight-year-olds and more than likely are ill-prepared to discuss anything related to social studies or even how to basically approach the marginalized sphere. I'll give you what you want, then, I'm 'outta here. I hope most of you will wake up while you're still young.
That's the pot calling the kettle black when you want to say we have the reading comprehension of an eight-year-old. Your not really doing a very good job at winning an argument when everything you type is riddled with insults. It's simple really. If we're going to be adults about this, than let's act like it and just agree to disagree and move on with our lives.I'd question your (rather skewed) definition of what is the most "slightest most minor of things" if I were you.

I mean, you guys pissed me off by consistently misinterpreting my points and comparing me to an extremist with the generic gamer 'SJW' garbage, so I think it's fair that I'm returning the favor, huh? That's the pot calling the kettle black when you want to say we have the reading comprehension of an eight-year-old. No. No it's not.
If the conversation is pissing you off, than maybe you should get off the computer (or phone), and get some fresh air and clam down a bit, eh? Not act like children throwing he-said, she-said, they-said, insults and sexist/racial slurs back and forth. Sometimes you just need to be the better person and just walk away. This topic has been derailed so far from the original discussion, that it's not even funny. Throwing insults back like you just admitted to doing is inflammatory, childish, and disrespectful. As I said before. Let's agree to disagree and return this thread back to the original topic.
So let's try this again shall we?
Do you feel the game is to masculine or feminine? (It's a yes or no question)
Do you think there should be more masculine or feminine glamours? Or do you think the game is fine the way it currently is.
It's perfectly acceptable to express your reasonings and opinions to those questions, but please do so without the inflammatory insults.

A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.

Aside from the events that may or may not cater to the gender, our asian culture usually dont find big, buff, and gringy, something very aesthetically pleasing.I am not intending this thread to insult people. It is just an issue occurred where my nephews were going to play ff with me noticed the little lady's day event and looked up the outfits in the game. Now they are telling me they are not going to play the game with me because it is too girly. Are we going a bit too far in the aesthetics department of design as of late in this depiction that would cause a lot of male players not to even try this game?
Even the roegadyn race is relatively hairless despite its big stature.
What the west prefers as big buff and manly, in asia its more like, 'stinky old muscular people'
I do see what you mean tho, its far diff. from most western games in imagery.
Just tell your nephews that jp mmos are like vitual dress up dolls for the grown.
Girls still like to play with them,
and men who couldnt touch dress up dolls in their youth get to go crazy there too.
