RP does not mean Mindless Grind, it means Role Play.I concur with pretty much everything you're saying.
I don't really understand the people who are totally fine with just essentially skipping the leveling process in an RPG. That's what an RPG is. And no, that's not a mentality of the past, it's just a fact of the genre. It seems to me that the kind of person who would want to bypass the leveling process of any RPG, is really not a person who is very fond of RPGs. It's someone who wants to play an MMOG, not an MMORPG, and they're coming into that genre and trying to whittle it down to what they want. And sadly, they're finding success.
All of this talk about PLing is really making me want to go out and PL. Thanks guys.
So what about Role Play is related to grinding the same monsters/leves for hours on end, that isn't the same as being power levelled?
If you want to take things as literally as you seem to, you are gaining experience by watching another person destroy things, thus your character is studying from his master. There you go, some Role Play for ya!
Like I said, the grind does not have to be the same monsters/leves for hours on end. In fact it shouldn't be, because that's boring. But that's a flaw with game design that FFXIV should deal with by making the grind more enticing and interesting through content and game design, instead of largely removing leveling from an RPG, which is just another form of bad design. So what about Role Play is related to grinding the same monsters/leves for hours on end, that isn't the same as being power levelled?

I didn't answer your question, because it was completely unrelated to what you quoted.
And RP is different than the label of RPG. Leveling is a fact of the genre referred to as "RPG." Role playing is a much more all-encompassing term. Technically you could say almost every game is a game in which you're "role playing."
This is the huge problem with the people on this forum. They are impossible to converse with once they have planted their feet in their ideas pot, they will not rest until a forum admin has said "We are aware of this, now please stop spamming and go back to the game and carry on doing what you are complaining about not doing".
Take the WoW forums for example, I WANT A BLUE RESPONSE NOW! <--- Meaningless, as they are forum admins (IE Customer Service) not the developers. People just get horny over font types it seems.
