INCREDIBLY underwhelmed with the new tank armor contest winner

True, it is common. I just don't know. I guess its very opinionated like a lot of things! I agree good armor designs can be done without butt capes, like a lot of 2.x's gear I suppose. Tank AF and Allagan all looked really good and they didn't have butt capes

True enough. With HW, though, I think that's at least in part due to the thematic elements/in game cultures. The rustic religious state, the 'Eastern' domans, the Sharlayans, etc. 4.0 will probably have its own thing going. If enough people don't like them, probably at least a few options lacking the widespread butt cape.

Same. I only saw praise about this gear when the top 40ish were shown. Now its won, I've only seen negative comments. Imo it combines the beauty of High Allagan and the first coil's Allagan gear together to make this great looking set. Don't get me wrong, I loved a lot of other designs too but this one was a clear winner when I first saw it.

PS: Tank skirts are good, we have no butt on this game so covering it is the best solution >_>

If something else won, someone else would be making a thread about how the (winner now) should've won and blah blah it had helmet tired of crowns.

I think that it looks really really good and detailed, I just hope that the in-game result will be respectful to the artwork. I like the fact that it looks like something that we could have gotten as a drop in FCoB instead of the Dreadwyrm set. It doesn't look unoriginal to me, it's just Allagan-themed, so it shares similarities with other Allagan sets, just like some other entries share similarities with the Warrior AF and AF2, but nobody's mentionning that when they complain about the winner. And I really love every single Allagan-themed things in FFXIV. They have really great designs.

Most people wanted this Allagan Luminous set to win anyway. It was the most popular before it won.

A friend of mine made and entry and actually made it into the finalists. I was rooting for her entry (Void Forged Plate), but in reality, it was actually pretty cool, but i knew who was gonna win right away. And to be honest, I'm not really sad. I love the High Allagan sets for tank and healer the most out of any other set they've made, I'd say Y'shtola's coat is a close second for healing-ish gear, with my current tank glamour using the Wild Rose Body. But anyways what I'm saying is, I love it, I can't wait for it to be released, and I will rock the crap out of it.

This one ? I loved it too, it was my favourite right after the Allagan Luminous set. It reminds me a lot of this Tera high-elf female armor (but less skimpy of course tho) for some reason (mostly the shoulders and the overall "gothic and elegant" design), and I loved this armor.

Yup thats the one. She worked super hard and asked around for stuff people would like. I gave he the idea of a breastplate-ish armor with a skirt and she rolled with it, and I thought the design came out fantastic, just sadly she didn't win, but it was still a good entry, and I hope to see it in game one day maybe.
