You're worrying way too much over this.

The duel mode is NOT a ranked or serious game mode. It is not instanced. It doesn't have any achievements (that we know of). There are no rewards (that we know of). It is purely for fun, shenanigans, and training purposes. It's not like there is a dueling league being set up with its own seasons and rewards. Nothing about this was intended to be balanced, nor would that even be possible with the variety of jobs we have at our disposal. It is simply intended to give us something to do while we are waiting on queue times (hopefully), as well as a training tool for new PvP'ers who are out in the dark about how PvP is done. That's it.

In regards to training, it's actually better that they leave these kinds of imbalances in the game, because it shows new players what to expect in the arena. There are walls in the actual Feast arena, after all. There is also a mix of ranged and melee players.

The purpose of having duels against odd or one-sided match ups is so that you can test where the strengths and weaknesses of those jobs are. You don't always have the freedom in the heat of combat to learn these things in an actual match, so dueling allows you the necessary environment to study your possible opponents. By having a 1v1 target on target set up, you can pay singular attention to that target and learn things about their job that you might not know, especially if you don't play it yourself. It's a good way to test out bursts, damage thresholds, learn buff icons, figure out range restrictions and LoS timing, pick up on visual queues for specific moves, etc. That's about as serious as Dueling is going to be. Otherwise, it's just a bit of fun.
