    YES!!! FINALLY!!! DUELING!!!

I'm surprised nobody has posted anything about this yet, but I'm pretty excited that they are finally implementing this in patch 3.4! If wanting to keep PvP alive this would be a good step because now people can practice while waiting for queues so they are more confident in fighting and also people spectating can provide tips and tricks. To improve players overall.

But the main reason I've been wanting it is so I can smash my friends in 1 vs 1 duels and show them who's boss

What about everyone else? What is your reasons for wanting dueling to be an option?

I think people are going to be much less enthusiastic about it once they realize some jobs are close to unbeatable 1v1.

It's gonna be fun, but I hope no one expects very good balance going into them.

Thats EXACTLY WHY duelings been needed for so long..to find out said weaknesses of unbeatable job. Jobs only as good as the person playing it, and when youre able to observe patterns and actions of a given job more intimately under less intense conditions, you have a greater chance to pick up something useful against it. heaven knows healers can make use of this to get a feel for things under pressure. Melees can tighten up burst speed, etc. No I dont think itll be HUGELY popular (least not on NA/EU servers) but it definitely will have its uses training/researchwise.

I absolutely agree with your mindset and that it does present a good opportunity for learning/research (omg I can finally test blind? yay! yeah I know, maybe thats not what you meant xP). Thing is, 1v1 dueling is going to be radically different from 4v4. 4v4 Balance in this game, in my opinion, is actually pretty good (at least its a LOT better than people commonly make it out to be). But theres always gonna be people who, instead of learning, focus on blaming their failures on everything under the sun, not the least of which being "class xyz is overpowered". So now we have 1v1, which WILL be unbalanced (because no sane mmo developer would balance their pvp around 1v1) and people will just use that to further reinforce their beliefs.

Not saying that every complaint about class balance is without justification, by the way

Im just trying to point out the negative side xD And really all it amounts to is more QQ on the forums and bad players being bad. That aside, Im very excited for dueling \o/

Aside form random challenge shenanigans, I think the real benefit to this will be what we can teach each other by dueling. Veterans can test out long standing questions they might have had about jobs they don't necessarily play, and new people will actually have a place to finally get some first hand experience without jumping head long into a ranked match. There are some things that you can only learn in a proper 4v4 setting, but one on one training will at least give people the basics, allow them to test out their bursts against a live opponent, and learn things about other classes that they might not have known before.

That said, for the sake of support roles, such as healers, it would be nice if they allowed us to do 2v2 battles as well by partying up before accepting a duel.

Agree and i would also support giving them cleric stance back for duels.

There is no need for balance it's just to have fun while you wait for your queues to pop. Unless they put some sort of achievements behind it then I can see people getting frustrated.

I'll see you there! It's my favorite place to hangout these days, though it does get lonely on our allergic-to-pvp server. :P
