and you are the extreme minority thenby those same standards that you put forth, i must now ask that you provide me all the mats i need to level my crafts, since thats your job, since it will allow me to repair you later it should be a fair trade right?
actually I would do thatsince I do plan on leveling my gathering class. I'm that tupe of person. I never look for profit on such stuff. I don;t see a point. If a crafter needs it. I give it to them. That is just the type of person I am.
people never give away all their stuff for free, cuz it costs them time and effort to farm it
so you cant expect crafters to do the same, which is exactly what you are asking us to do

First, let's cool it down here. I know from first hand experience they Mods here are no joke about getting you for even the lightest of inflammatory comments.
Anyway, if it doesn't fly, why don't you try it? Seriously. If you don't wanna pay us, then by all means, do the work around we took. Level it yourself. You probably won't though because it takes days. I almost quit crafting when it was first released (and I promised myself that in XIV I wouldn't make the mistake I made in XI of never crafting) due to how obnoxious the fail rates and skill ups were, but what really had me on the edge was the Wards and how hard it was to find materials, especially since for something it takes 6 synths just to get from point a to b, and If I wanna make some gear, I wanna make as few synths as I can. When I was having to do 5 crafts for 1 simple item it almost made me quit. Then they fixed the MWs and I can find almost all the basic bits I need instead of having to make my own glues and the like.
Even then though, it's still a lot of work trying to come up with parts. And it takes a really long time to get there. Not getting a fair compensation is just not cool. You're basically faced with 2 choices. Often fair compensation, or just walk around with broke gear. Broke gear you can't sell back. We ranked crafting to make money and avoid having to pay higher prices ourselves. I sell my things are pretty reasonable less cut throat prices. But I still aim to make money. That's the name of the game. I assure you, if you take your shoes to a professional cobbler (and yes, they're still around. There's one in the same shopping complex where our local Shoe Carnival is), Even if you bring them all the items it'll take to repair your shoe, they're still gonna charge you for their time it took to repair your shoe.
Bottom line, if you want things repaired, you have to make it worthwhile. There's other things I could do with my time and money.
does "this is a video game" ring any bells? Sorry this isn't real life.
What I do on a game is fir my personal enjoyment. I don't use it as petty ammo in a failled agument that shouldn't even take place. Sorry but you guys claim that repairs are not your obligation. So your "time and effort" are kinda pointless.
But again this is a video game. It isn't like we are paid real money to play it.
Kind of funny, because that's also how RMT tried to legally get away with gil sales for the longest when it came to trying to legally stand in court. "We don't sell the currency. It's simply a bonus the player gets. They buy the time it took to earn that money."
Which at least tells you the time and effort are worth more than anything.
@ luv.
I crafted in ffxi and it took longer to level it. And I still didn't ask ppl for gil. Mats or gil was my thing.
And I'm the type of person to hand things out. If it took me days to lvl I'll enjoy it then. I'll repair for no cost unless I don't have mats. That is just who I am. I play a video game to have fun. And that is my fun![]()
i find it funny that even went to court, since the time and effort, or the bonus, or whatever still didnt get around the fact they violated the agreement they signed to sign up for the game, but thats off topic so ill leave it at thatKind of funny, because that's also how RMT tried to legally get away with gil sales for the longest when it came to trying to legally stand in court. sorry time and effort only flies in REAL LIFE video games are not real life all the "time and effort" was infact you playing a video game having fun. So you want to be paid for having fun? Sorry time and effort only works for buinesses but you guys don't run repair buinesses. If you dud. I would pay if you stated you only take gil.
That still don't mean alternate payments don't excist.
I like taking my time to lvl up. I also do my part to be a good member in an mmo communty. In ffxi i never charged ppl for anything if they needed it.
mats, gear, food. My payment was the good feeling of helping ppl. Which is what the game should be about. Hsaving fun and helping ppl if needed.
When a video game too closely resembles real life is when ppl take it to seriously. And That is stuff I hate.
Right. And that's you. And that's rather kind. But some of us need money. I agree that things can get outrageous in terms of pricing. I slowed down my XIV playing cause I don't think I'm up for paying 200k for a lot of my weapons. But at the same time, at the end of the day and discussion, you have to appreciate economy and how it works. A few people can be real big on deals, sure, but it's not a sustainable practice in the end. You may help your friends out, and that's fine.
Who here does NOT help their friends with free or reduced priced repairs?
But when it comes to strangers or people I don't deal with frequently... I want some reasonable compensation. I'll spare you another long winded analogy.
*edit*
Also, please just call me Lusa or Vari. My XI character is Varizen, so when I came up with my character names, I made is to I could use either a new or old Nickname :P
Even if we're playing a game, we're still playing a massive simulator/chatroom. You expect to be compensated for killing a monster with xp, I expect to be compensated for fixing a virtual sword with virtual currency. The "Playing a game" excuse doesn't fly because we're all trying to achieve our own ingame goals.sorry time and effort only flies in REAL LIFE video games are not real life all the "time and effort" was infact you playing a video game having fun. or at least i try to, they still refuse to take it for free and pay me
as far as some of ther 200k+ items out there, i used to wonder about that too til i leveled up everything enough to actualy make them myself
and OMFG the ammount of synths needed in some of them hurt.
Cavalry bows for instance.
Takes carbon fiber, which is a 45 alchemy recipe. which cost 100k on its own to make 3! so there is 35k or so gil on its own for that one material. Add in everything else, and you have done around 10+ synths already, and had to go through the hassle of finding an alchemist who can actualy make the stuff(and hasnt quit the game, which is the case on Besaid right now, all the 50 alchemists quit, and the closest active one i know of is me, and im only 42)
then you add in the 5 more synths it takes to make the next upgrade of that bow
and the 7 or so more synths to make the next upgrade...and you realize how much time it can actualy take to make some of these items. And it more then justifies some of the markups on them.
