I wonder how many people wouldn't wait if the original grind was milder in the first place. Some of these steps can be hard to justify the player time needed for the original grind. The 210 step is a major example.

This really needs to be emphasised. Had the 210 step been say, going to slaying old EX Primals with some mild grinding involved, I wager far more people would have done it. But the grind at only the second evolution was enormous for a weapon we didn't know would be customizable later on. For DRG, I don't get any crit until I put it in myself. So while I was still doing the grind... he wasn't as high a priority.

I am kind of curious how many people did do it despite the complaints though. I suspect it's far higher than people might think.

Regardless of how necessary it may have felt for them to nerf it at some point, it won't make up for the several hours of a person's life lost, for something someone else could flick their wrist a few times by comparison to obtain. But the complaints anyone has in regards to the second relic is almost completely redundant, as this was the very thing they had done with the first relic. The biggest difference is that the steps overall are much much smaller for the new relic. The experience felt cheapened, and my eagerness to actually complete it wavered to a meager "I'll dungeon on occasion when it's convenient" state of mind by the time I had reached the current final phase of the relic. That's not ok, but that's also what I believe to be the fault behind the situation that has a number of people in a tizzy. But they're too late to complain. Like... way too late.

obsessive grind, and speedrunning are not what many consider fun. especially since the 210 step was released last, causing players to think themselves under the gun to complete it for that tier. I'm glad for the change, but would it have killed them to not make it so bad the first time? Rather than make it bad and spout many excuses, hoping one sticks? if it is already clear the relic is never going to catch up to the raid in terms of performance, why bother with the charade of making it "as bad"?

The thrill with the first relic was the fact that there was a tolerable difficulty with not only dungeoning, but actually being made to learn about the game, its available fates and monsters, and somewhat plan with a few fellow players when light farming. Most of that was dashed away with this new relic, as nearly ever phase is just pure dungeon grinding. While I enjoy boasting my Monk's damage by example during my runs, I'm only there because I have to be, not because I want to be.

I'm not so sure we were having fun. Since 2.0, that has been the complaint of many people.

For the 2.0 relic, it was this:

    1) Get base weapon from a chest in a beastman stronghold
    2) Get a crafted weapon
    3) Do the Chimera trial
    4) Do Amdapor Keep
    5) Kill 24 beastmen
    6) Do the Hydra trial
    7) Do Ifrit HM
    8) Do Garuda HM
    9) Do Titan HM
    10) Buy Tomestone item for 900 Philosophy (uncapped)

Sadly, relic progression was reduced to a brain dead grind ever since.

    Compare that to 3.15 Relic
    1) Complete about 120-300 FATEs in HW areas
    2) Complete 10 different dungeons
    3) Gather 80 unidentified items and 16 crafted items (pick 1 below or mix and match them)
    a) Complete 1,040 Beastman Tribe Quests
    b) Gather 27,200 Poetics and 27,200 Law
    c) Complete A1N-A4N 68 times each (272 total)

I don't know about anyone else, but I considered the 2.0 relic to be fun. The 3.1 relic is more of a chore.

I only took 1 past the 210 threshold because I knew a nerf was coming. I can complete 3 more to i230 now with the materials I saved up. I think it is sad that they took a weapon that was gated behind doing some somewhat challenging content and changed that into how much boredom can you stand before you cry uncle.

Reading too much of the forums makes me very sad and apathetic.

Honestly, the most fun I had was finishing the damn 240 step knowing that I finally had free time to start leveling other jobs. No, the grind wasn't fun. The only reason I did it was because I dislike raiding.
