FFXIV 2nd expansion: Viera-like race still a possibility?

Well if they add Viera, and i really wish they do, i just hope they will add them with those legs on high heels, not the regular human ones. Really sick of hearing them 'we can't change footgear or what ever else cause of resources' . If they can't do that part they shouldn't add them at all

They took Galkas' tails away when they made them Rogadyn, all for easier conformity in designing gear. I seriously wouldn't get your hopes up regarding high-heels.

If we get Viera at all, they'll be Hyur with bunny ears and tails. Or, if we're really lucky and they decide to get CRAY-ZEE... Elezen with bunny ears and tails.

Somehow, if they add a new race at all, I think they will branch away from conformity. The next expansion has to differ from the status quo far more than Heavensward did, or it's just not going to grab people long term. SE can't live off the revival of 2.0 any longer. Not that a new race is necessarily a big deal, but corner cuts like "we want conformity" doesn't exactly look good when other MMOs have better options. That all said, I don't think we'll see a new race.

I find it extremely obnoxious that Yoshi refused to add the Viera under the reasoning of not wanting to add a second human race with animal ears, only to turn around and add the au'ra! How, pray tell, is the au'ra any different than the miqote? In fact, according to the concept art made up by the FFXIV team themselves (viera was on the list of potential new races, btw...), the viera were far more different that what the au'ra are! Change the fuzzy tail to a scaly tail: done!

Second, for everyone who is so against the Viera, understand that it is, far and away, the highest fan-favorite. While Yoshi was against it, personally, he also said he would listen if the fans made it clear they really wanted it. I'll be surprised if it's not the new race with 4.0... assuming there is one, of coarse.

I've criticised that same reasoning, but I've also considered what "new thing" the race brings. Au Ra came with horns, scales (skin condition) and eye glow things. I left out the tail because, while nothing like the Miqo'te's, it's nothing new. Also left out faces, as that's pretty much a guarantee (otherwise why bother calling it a new race? hahah)

What new fancy thing will Viera add? Unless SE actually makes gear to fit the 'Ivalice Viera' style people would prefer (unlikely, unless they first remake gear to end the tail-clip days as well as make sense of horns for head gear), the only "new" thing a Viera will bring are their ears (somewhat already available as fake Play Boy ears) and that's just about it. In terms of variety, Au Ra wins :I

Yugiri was the only Au Ra to exist up until HW came out and then we were suddenly overrun with them (even if most of which were Fantasias), with some NPCs here and there. Let a potential new race have some time to shine as NPC's (gradually becoming more and more common to Eorzea) before making them playable.

Yugiri was the only Au Ra to exist up until HW came out and then we were suddenly overrun with them (even if most of which were Fantasias), with some NPCs here and there. Let a potential new race have some time to shine as NPC's (gradually becoming more and more common to Eorzea) before making them playable.

It's within this understanding that I'd prefer no new race to exist until either exploration of an entirely new continent is opened(and story is established that explains migration) or impactful changes to the current realm occur(with zones and locations actually changing). These have always been the base to introduce new races and while I do have interest in Au'ra even I can agree that their inclusion was more or less just fed through.

I would say chances are good, because it gets people excited about the new expansion and they make a lot of money from fantasias on people who want to be the new race.

I can actually think of a few ways to feasibly work around it.

Viera lore in FFXII had their race live under the concept that leaving their jungle was basically self-exile. Take this to the extreme (and remember we have almost 1/3 of Eorzea to still explore), and you could feasibly have a super isolationist society on par with the Moogles of the Churning Mists living deep in Xephatol. Garlemald comes knocking and they are driven out. Thus, FFXIV-Viera analogues start spilling into other lands.

Another possible route is to have them be a part of Garlemald's currently invading forces. Perhaps the resistance of Ala Mhigo, the Domans, or the WoL's efforts help them to free themselves.

Or, hell. Maybe the Viera are just Ala Mhigan. *shrug*
