I actually don't mind the floor lock. I appreciate the variety.
But yea, if they unlock the weekly loot, that would naturally unlock the raids. The main penalty now for skipping floors is the loss of loot. If they unlocked the loot, then it wouldn't make sense to keep the raids locked.

I actually do agree that they should unlock the current raid lockout a short period before the release of the new tier.
It definitely was a good decision to keep the lockout for coil for the following two reasons:
1. Back in coil you needed to clear the previous tiers final turn in order to progress to the current content. This kept the raid fairly relevant at the beginning of a patch, and the lockout removal allowed individuals to help other groups who may have had difficulties in completing this.
2. The gear that dropped from last expansions raids was still extremely useful in the progression of the following tier, so there was great incentive to do the content for weapons and the gear. This expansion saw the story mode raids which offer immediate replacements of the previous tiers highest end content. This instantaneously makes the raid obsolete.

These are my feelings as well - Especially since, based on Gordias, Midas will be near useless due to free Lore/free upgrades from 24m/crafted gear/etc. Better for them to unlock it now and have people at least participate in the content. The only time where farming Coil was fun was when Final Coil's lockout was lifted since there was nothing else on the horizon - if (more like when tbh) they don't remove the lockout til 3.4 then what is technically new content to a lot of people will be dead on arrival.
What makes the gear obsolete is the crafted DoW/M gear. The Alex normal gear is still gated by weekly loot-locking.2. This expansion saw the story mode raids which offer immediate replacements of the previous tiers highest end content. This instantaneously makes the raid obsolete.
So, if the DoW/M crafted gear didn't exist (at least on day 1 of 3.4) then the 3.2 raid gear would still be mandatory for early 3.4 progression since you wouldn't be able to replace every piece with an Alex normal drop until something like 5 weeks into the patch.
But I think raiders cried a bit too much about being forced to farm Alex normal for the sake of Savage gear progression so they added the crafting gear to make Alex normal loot obsolete. Ironically, they also shot themselves in the foot because it made old raiding gear completely worthless.

I actually think they HAD to raise the item level of crafted and easy mode gear in order to make Diadem gear obsolete. The 210 Aetherial stuff you could get was 100% certified retarded. If anything that's the stuff the raid should be dropping kekeke. But I think raiders cried a bit too much about being forced to farm Alex normal for the sake of Savage gear progression so they added the crafting gear to make Alex normal loot obsolete. Ironically, they also shot themselves in the foot because it made old raiding gear completely worthless.

I am sure Brian is talking about the 1st day of new raid season when the midas loot is still weekly locked and so it would have increased the longevity of the raid gear... were it not for the crafted gear. But crafted gear is fine! Crafters also need some love.
As I said in another thread, these lockouts are too much punishing for people who join mid patch or change jobs (same issue with tomestones, the cap should have been doubled at least by now) and it just further discourages players from doing or having a chance of doing savage. Some players might raid for the achievement but the whole game is gear driven and the savage gear is losing its value as more easier options get available - which is made even worse with the savage glamour being just copy paste of the normal version.
Personally I think the lockouts should have been removed gradually by unlocking one floor for farming every single patch.
The main reason why the Party Finder is not working for the harder content and so many groups disband after few wipes is caused by the players who ignore the comments.
Getting to the phase XYZ once does not mean you are ready to join parties to do XYZ.
Parties should spend most of the time doing the phase that is written in the comment not trying to get there.

Midas savage is still current content, that drops the best gear you can currently get. Once that changes (3.4), the restriction will be lifted.
