There needs to be harsher punishment for mentors breaking the rules

The problem is there should be a rule as it completely breaks the spirit of the game or intention of the roulette. Having a friend to make a low level alt to get through easy mentor roulette is not the intended methodology for the achievement.

That being said, since they are so lackluster with feast, gold saucer games and cheating various other aspects of the game, makes this less critical in priorities of governance.

By no means in it should be valued as okay but sadly, people will get away with it.

True statements, and I agree that it's less than ethical. They do not, however, violate the Terms of Service unless someone goes around harassing people. And what if that new person truly is new? Are you not slandering the mentor? I don't know the details, you don't either, and we have OP's opinion and lack of stated facts to go on.

But at the same time, it's the norm that Castrum runs are blitzed and newbies are pressured into skipping cutscenes. Countless boss fights in dungeons can be done by skipping adds. Definitely not the intended methodology, but people do it.

You know what they should have done?

Don't add a reward in the Mentor roulette.

BTW: What happened to the thread talking about themes like this, which was very active till yesterday. I don't find it anymore. Do Square Enix really think, ignoring it and removing every visible hint to it is a solution to this problem?

This is common, the Thread was created on a Sunday (The entire Support isn't really working it seems on Weekend, the E-Mail seems to be automatic).
So when it was Monday, the Support / Moderation started working in the morning, hence why the Thread got deleted.

Questioning the Forum Staff / Moderation or generally why a Thread has been deleted seems to be a Way to get banned though : o

Can't figure out how to multi-quote in a timely and organized manner, but I'll try to respond to some of the points raised.

The main issue is the faking of disconnects. I don't have an issue running that particular guildhest if it were to be with different groups. I shouldn't have to run it multiple times because another mentor wants to boost. If it happened with ARF runs, with the same group, you could simply wait a minute for someone else to get queued, as each ARF run takes about 20 minutes to complete and has many people queuing for it. The same can't be done for a quest that takes about a minute to complete. If a mentor has to wait or just not use the mentor roulette because some mentors are boosting, how is that not harassment?

No one asked or forced people to become mentors. Win trading is bad, but once you know about it, you can choose not to waste your time with the tournament. With the faked disconnects, you are forced to waste time until the player can be removed, until the player can be replaced, and if the duty is abandoned as a result, until you get back into the duty with the long wait times. Disconnects being done by any player are bad, but being done by mentors looking to get the mount?

Not just the mount, but the daily esos cause it. Why put in the effort with the final steps of faith when they can get a guildhest or some other content that they can complete afk?

Your Behaviour is a bad example on how to teach Novice Players Final Fantasy XIV I believe, and thereby your Mentor Status should be blocked off for lifetime.

Finger-pointing using actual names is against the terms of service for these forums, I'm afraid, and at best your post will be deleted once a mod finds it (at worst, you could be banned from the forums).

Simple as that. You remove the reward, and then people who do the mentor roulette is mostly there to, you know, mentor. I never understood why they decided on that. They opened the door for any one Tom, Dick or Harry to come in and just do it for the reward. While the tomes, I'm sure, are nice, having that reward just made it all sorts of complicated.

Unfortunately, I DO understand why they did this. They wanted to flood instances with more people, regardless of the quality of the people they were flooding them with. It WORKED. While you can't count on the not-mentors to give good advice, or even be decent human beings, they do a lot to fill up those struggling parties in Duty Finder. And since Mentor Roulette places you practically ANYWHERE, Roulettes that get less mileage, like Guildhest Roulette, will always have a source of members.

It's unfortunate that these types tend to bail when the going gets tough (Ex Primals, for example), they tend to stick it out for easier content.

It is also frustrating that these types give mentors the bad reputation they're starting to cultivate. I wish it were more common knowledge that the jerk mentors are most likely in it only for the mount, and are not representative of all mentors.

Considering the duties you get are fairly random, since you get put where you are needed, I find it highly hard to believe someone could be "boosting" with alt's or people they know. Especially since you can't even que with anyone when doing a mentor roulette.

Also, in my experiences with mentor roulette, I have never come across any mentors like what you've listed. While some are quiet (like myself since I'm very shy), I've never had any fake a DC or vote quit because of new people. If anything, I have new people leave duties all the time. Not saying what you've said doesn't happen, just think you have very bad luck.

I may do the roulette for the mount, but I also do it to help people, because it what I love to do. I've gone above and beyond for people whom happen to be on my server. I do not wish to see the award go away, not for selfish reasons, but because it really does help newer players' que times, like it or not.

They should've just made the achievements count for the first mentor roulette of the day, but it's way too late for that fix now.
