On the one side, there is hand holding, and on the other there is simply neglect and/or enabling really bad play. I think the HoN is fine for teaching the rudimentary skills of the game. As for learning one's unique class/job skills, that takes a little initiative on the part of the player, and possibly a gentle nudge from another player (say, a mentor or FC mate). The game doesn't always teach you how your class is "supposed to" operate. For example, I got a new Arcanist in my FC and I observed he never used DoTs. I asked why, and he said he didn't know they made much of a difference! If the HoN could throw out some class-specific suggestions like "be sure to keep your DoTs up" that might be nice. Not a DDR style combo lesson, but the kinds of things ppl in the DF might mention.

Don't the Arcanist class quests already do that in addition to the role that HoN teaches?

Regarding the topic in general, the game already leads the horse to water, but it can't make it drink.

Or you know I have a radical idea - we as a community help them.

Got a new person who doesn't quite know their abilties, give them some pointers and be lighthearted about it you'll find nearly all of them will be grateful.

i.e. "SMN could you Bane after you place your DoT's? I love the colour pink especially when it sparkles even the mobs will die of fabulousness".

Wow people slippery sloping the hell out of OPs suggestion.

You know what people do to break limits? You use as much existing information as possible combined with your own analysis.

You think Bruce lee figured it all out on his own? No he tried in many already existing martial arts and got rid of what he percieved bad and kept the good.

People looking up rotational guides ect. Once they do an instance nothing is holding your hand.

OP is just asking for a way for people who don't go to community forums and ask questions or look for others for help for whatever reason. Do they can have a tool that lets them really understand their tools. Cuz frankly 85% of duty finder doesn't know how to properly use half of it at 60 and we've been 60 for a year+ now.

Just reading your abilities should be more then enough.

If players can't be arsed to do that, they're not going to pay attention to a tutorial.

Yeah this, It pops up in the middle of your screen when you level up and get a new action. If players can't be bothered to read the tooltip for that skill you can't really help them anymore.

My husband and friends made fun of someone one day in game. The next day, I got in a chat and they were there. The person had a mental disability. I wouldn't say like autism but maybe Down syndrome ? Point being, I understood why he chose to play the way he did.
    Boy did it hurt.
Sure, I still get mad if I'm in a raid and maxing my dps and the bard isn't using WM or the BLM doesn't use ley lines or Enochain, but I can't force them nor do I want to after what happened.

I dunno about you but my MCH abilties tell me nothing about a Wildfire rotation or how you've messed up badly if you get it wrong.

    "Covers target's body in a slow-burning pitch.
For the next 15 seconds, 25% of most damage you inflict upon the target is compiled, then dealt at the end of the effect's duration."

    Pretty self explanatory no?

Point being, If people cant be bothered to read skill tooltips, I don't think they're that bothered about getting their rotations correct either.

Not in the least, that's just like any ability tooltip it doesn't mention when to use reload in relation to it, it doesn't say to use a 1-2-1-3-2 combo when you do, it doesn't say to use it when you have slugshot procced. All of which are important when it comes to a MCH's rotation any lost GCD is less widfire damage and less wildfire damage reduces your dps drastically. If you do really bad you've messed up ever single one of your CD's that sync up with each other resulting in even more loss of damage.

99% of the playerbase didn't figure it out until smarter people told them how (myself included).

And can you explain what is "most damage", based only on tooltip text?
