Even at 60, you don't need anyone.
I mean this game is almost Single Player tier because
it just allows you to throw yourself into the fray with randoms about a good...90~95% of the game.
The other percentage is locked behind PF/Static I guess but then it'll open for everyone the next patch.
Edit: Game is also tailored to those who do not have much time on your hand.
At the end of the day, it's a MMO and you're not really 'soloing' so do expect jerks in the DF.
And even finally being around people are running in silence. I personally don't mind it
because I don't have that much time on my hand but I can see how people feel like it's kinda 'dead'.
You're better off with NPC's who talk more randomly lol!

With that said, people should really try and amp up and talk to others in FC's or join a social LS to not make the game so quiet I guess.
I found it hard some times because I'm assuming people also think there's no real point when everything is handed to you.

I meet a lot of players who don't know their class. I don't bother explaining it to them because I don't know who's behind that screen.

My husband and friends made fun of someone one day in game. The next day, I got in a chat and they were there. The person had a mental disability. I wouldn't say like autism but maybe Down syndrome ? Point being, I understood why he chose to play the way he did.
    Boy did it hurt.
Sure, I still get mad if I'm in a raid and maxing my dps and the bard isn't using WM or the BLM doesn't use ley lines or Enochain, but I can't force them nor do I want to after what happened.

Thanks. I'm not upset by it and I have definitely done some if not all of the things you suggested. I was just sharing that the game feels very single player which shocked me because I always assumed a MMO would need more cooperative play.

That is due to the nature of the open world. Most difficult group content is locked in instances and open world mobs tend to be very weak so as not to discourage or impede players doing quest and traveling.

Just continue doing the stuff you been doing then. I guess you never played Square's older mmo FFXI in the pre level 75 years. You would probably get what you are wishing in terms of group interaction. With a cross server duty finder here no one has to be nice but some are. That is the price you pay for convenience. I knew some casuals who played XI who took a year to get max level playing 2-3 hours a day, very group oriented.

We have Hall of the Novice Palace of the Dead and dummies.

Only thing the game really needs to help new players is more content designed around Free Company and open world content. This would at least get more people talking to each other on the server.

I suggest jumping into Palace of the Dead at level 16. You will get to see and use all your skills on the class (Job too if unlocked), which helps to learn the class. Also you get to see the playstyles etc of other players. The last boss @50 also gives you a crash course in avoiding AOE's it has a few mechanics but is slow enough that you can learn to avoid and dodge.

The issue I have in this game is the unwillingness to learn their roles and it can be down right infuriating this game holds your hand throughout the entire game it even hints at what you should be doing in the story AND rotation wise. 2 examples I had recently was:

-A Mch using spread shot on 1-2 targets, no hot shot, no lead shot I told them why they were playing this way. They responded with "It hits multiple times during the animation so isn't it really strong?" I explained to them no it doesn't it's better to use your single target abilities on 1-2 and with 3 or more use your AoE, they then said well most of my shots are RNG why would I want to use them? I said with ammo it eliminates RNG and does more dmg per ammo consumed. The Mch responded with no i'll keep using Spread Shot but thanks, this was in Stone Vigil and it made the run go by veerrryyy slowly, they didn't even use a turret either.

-My second run in DF was with a Warrior who didn't have Defiance unlocked in Cutters cry, I asked where it was as my new friend was healing they said "never learned it" to which I asked why..the response was "I heard warrior was a DPS class so getting that ability doesn't help my dmg". I thought they were trolling but they weren't using combos, and if they did it was maim like 50% of the time it was the most brutal Cutters I was in the tank fell over so many times, never used Overpower, didn't have Taunt unlocked when i asked him he's supposed to be a tank he responded with "Oh is that what the blue portrait around my health bar is lol?". We sighed and I told him to use his threat moves, then he said "I haven't been using them now so what's the point i'll just attack things lol".

I ask people who are like this in duties if this is their first MMO they say no they've played XI and WoW, Aion, Blade and Soul, Tera you name it but this is just getting ridiculous lately you can bring a horse to water but you can't make it drink sadly no matter what is implemented there will always be people who either don't care, don't wanna learn, can't pick it up, etc.

Edit: Forgot to mention both were sprouts.

They have a few things that are a little unclear. Every how many seconds do DoTs tick? Nobody tells you. How much more enmity do enmity skills generate? You aren't told. What exactly are the Astral Fire/Umbral Ice modifiers? Can you use OGCD abilities as filler during the GCD? Which skill does which kind of damage? Several small things that you need to piece together yourself.

Otherwise, it's really pretty easy. Combo skills light up and you don't get your third combo skill until like 20+ "and" the combos are stated in the tooltip - together with the effects and potencies. Everyone who passed 6th grade in school should be able to get the basics down on their own. The advanced stuff however...that takes a bit more.

No, all of that stuff is the basics. You don't need to know exact numbers most of the time, but knowing stuff like "Butcher's Block is worth at least 3 Fell Cleaves, enmity wise" and "Astral Fire III has a huge multiplier so I should try to be in it at all times" is very important. DoT ticks you can eyeball and it tells you how many other weapon skills you can fit in between DoTs.

The thing is the game doesn't kill you in 90% of content for not understanding the basics, so it's mostly fine to be completely ignorant of how your class works. That is, until you join a trial roulette and do 400 dps as a level 60 monk. Then you're just wasting 7 other players' time.

In conclusion, if you want to teach new players how to play, start making them actually fail at stuff when they play poorly. Like in Mario Bros if you don't have the DPS to pass the first goomba you don't get to save the princess or whatever.
