The sad part is most if any arguments detracting from classic open world content stems from the "all mine" argument where no content should exist unless it can be set aside especially for a single player or group.
Nothing is allowed to happen organically if it would somehow impede another in the slightest.
- Failed fates remove certain npc? - What if I can't get that item then.
- Claim able monsters? - Then I can't always kill it.
- Danger in the overworld? - What if I die.
- Limited fast travel? - I can't afford the time.
MMOS have evolved around a growing selfish population of players. Instead of building a world for us to play in they are building a park with rails once you decide to cross the line you find the whole world is cardboard cutouts with no real substance.
