Exactly. Also, people who anger the forest (or Elementals. Either or) will be afflicted with the Greenwrath/Woodsin, something which has been heavily downplayed so far.

Maybe we can finally see a Duskwight or Keeper of the moon settlements in West Shroud instead of hamfisting a race because this game makes a crap ton of references to other final fantasies constantly. Seriously, why add a new race that's role just effectively overwrites something that can be used for a neglected clan :\

Its a shame because that no longer happens. You know how many criminals roam the forest now but none has been inflicted with greenwrath or woodsin? Not to mention Viera's love the forests and they can be introduced into the new areas as settlers, much like coerthas and the Au Ra. Not gonna talk too much on lore as everyone knows how easily mend-able it is. Though I will say that just because Duskwight's and Moon Keepers may be in the Western Shrouds doesn't mean another race may have lived there. After all, they are the outcasts of their race. :/Exactly. Also, people who anger the forest (or Elementals. I think you don't see the Black Shroud as dangerous as it was before because the Calamity really took a toll on the forest and the elementals, so they're really weak. Poachers took advantage of it I guess.
Anyway if they're going to introduce a new race such as Viera, they should make them unplayable first and give them some story to give a reason/explain why there's a growing population of them in Eorzea. Au Ra wasn't explained very well but their reason was because their homeland of Othard was conquered by the Garlean Empire, so a lot of them might be refugees. Xaela however are nomads so travelling is a natural thing to them. I think if they shown more story about Au Ra instead of only showing Yugiri and then releasing them so quickly then people would understand why they're there.
I do think that Viera can still and will be integrated into the game if not for 4.0 maybe for 5.0.
Vieras are a seclutive race living in secrecy so meeting them would be really hard.
I do hope that SE will remember what they did by introducing the Au Ra in the game.
Something mi-human mi-animal ? = Miqo'te (Cats)
Something mi-human mi-animal ? = Au Ra (Lizards)
Saying that Au Ra is different because reptilian and not animal is bullshit.
Reptilian or Feline is a precision on the family tree of the race but the main source is still : animal.
So if 2 animals races has been integrated in the game why not more ? Besides the concept of Vieras is already done, plus there is a MALE version, something that others FF never had.
That's the issue, you already have two races to bounce through if you want "Sexy anime girlfriend with animal bits" material. I bet dollars to donuts if the Viera were added they'd be toned down just like the Au Ra concept art was during it's development cycle. Why can't us folks who don't want something so saccharinely cutesy get something? Especially if it had an animal influence or filled that stout and squat niche like dwarves tend to do. (And no, the which range from looking like "I'm so elegant and pretty" to "generic anime girl with bunny ears" do not count.)
I'm a giant dragon and heretic sympathizer and I love character customization
See my thread about equalizing the heights for men and women of each race! http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/253435-A-suggestion-regarding-height.
The question you seem to be neglecting is "why not?" We don't need a Triad gameplay system with roles but we have it. We have Lord of Vermillion, but we have it. We now have Palace of the Dead because "why not". If you don't like change you wouldn't be the first but this is getting ridiculous. If the Viera or any unique race were to be added, where is there a reason it should not/never happen? Because it would look different? Don't see people stop being Au Ra's because SE decided to make everything innovative look "traditionally" pretty and faultless (except for the male Au Ra's crap dancing). Makes me wonder what these forums are for anyway. If your just going to say the devs won't change because they're like that, then whats the point of having a chat system meant for feedback from actual players? That's the issue, you already have two races to bounce through if you want "Sexy anime girlfriend with animal bits" material. I bet dollars to donuts if the Viera were added they'd be toned down just like the Au Ra concept art was during it's development cycle. I think they are afflicted with the Greenwrath/Woodsin, but since the Elementals are still weak due to the Calamity, nothing has happened to them (yet. Either they'll get purged or the Elementals will do something once they're strong enough). As for the rabbit people, IF they were introduced to FFXIV, I really doubt they'd be forest people (it'd be silly to have a Padjal say "they've 'secretly' been here the entire time!" followed by "and now hundreds of them want to explore the world because why not?"). The less they have to do with Ivalice, the better.
The more I think on it, the less likely I think a new race will happen (unless they're another Au Ra situation and came from a different continent). Any race that lives in secrecy within Eorzea and then suddenly becoming playable just... it doesn't make sense to me :/
