Yup, the same way the game doesn't demand the Summoner to keep its pet out, or the Black Mage to keep Enochian up/use anything but Ice spells.

False symmetry. Their roles are DPS, so it's not optional for them to actually do damage. It is optional though, for a Summoner to Raise in battle or a BLM use E4E.
Haha, yeah, sure. I love how people ignore the fact that every class in the game is pretty much a DPS first, save maybe Paladin.

And this is bad game design, maybe not bad as per se, but at least lazy. I can see why they make the game like that though, do you remember ALL THE COMPLAINING because of 20 potency difference on AST healing spells? If they make healing spells weaker and raise the healing requirements, most parties would probably break apart.
I don't find it bad or lazy, I find the players lazy for not adapting to it.And this is bad game design, maybe not bad as per se, but at least lazy. They weren't only complaining about the 20 potency difference, they were complaining about how it was combined with the lack of healing options compared to both Scholar and White Mage.
If you find it ok for healers to be measured by how much damage they do in a RPG game, you should probably review your role-playing game concepts.
And YES, they were complaining about the potency -especifically- in many threads. And AST never had "lack of healing options", the only big problem was cards and that there were no gains for the party by bringing AST over the other two classes.

I worded that improperly. Not a lack of healing options, just inferior. If you find it ok for healers to be measured by how much damage they do in a RPG game, you should probably review your role-playing game concepts.

Bias unchanged.
