    I have a similar situation. I got the correct version for a non-stream account, but was still rejected for register.
    The reason they gave is it's for difference region( which they never indicate on the box)

    I have tried contact thier online support, it's hopeless. They reject to look into the matter and insist it's not their problem... they told me to find the retailer and solve the problem myself then... they CUT off the line and consider case closed.

The solution to both problems is the same, try to get a refund from where you purchased it from, Op needs to email the SE store, and you need to request a refund or exchange from your retailer, in your case it is definitely not something SE can handle, so their service was just fine

    OP your best bet is trading the code to someone else who's registered with a non-steam version for something like a steam code of HW are game time that's how 1 of my fc member dealt with the problem a few month ago.

    It really sucks, but the thing is there's this little note on the store's item page:
    Notice: This product is not compatible with the Steam version of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. If you’ve purchased FFXIV: A Realm Reborn on Steam, then you must also purchase FFXIV: Heavensward on Steam to upgrade your existing account.

    As for why they're not compatible, I've got no idea other than Steam wanting your money. But it does say everywhere that Steam's version is not compatible with PC versions and vicecersa.

    Yes it might be the OP's fault for not reading but SE in my honest opinion have one of the most confusing purchasing scheme I've played in any game, neither is their customer service on par with their reputation. One of my mogstation items never got to my intended character due to an error(and I even proved it), guess what I never got refunded. I think refunding is perfectly fine because over maybe 40$ you might lose a player that could've been a long-term subber or recruited more friends to join. There are somethings a company should be more forgiving towards and I believe this is one of the case.

    I can't name a single game that has ever had this issue. Especially in 2015 onwards. So what you're saying is, this is acceptable practice and we should be thanking them instead of questioning them.

    I always laugh when it's the unemployed ones that talk about acceptable practice and we should be praising them. It's like you think they'll give you a job. You DO need to know about the business first!
