Oh, actually no it doesn't take Mr. interwed forum WWWizardd to dismiss your approach. It takes someone who actually has been participating in materia craft since patch night. You know, how people have been trying to kill Ifrit since patch night?
Still not even close to having a solid set of materia enhanced gear. At this point, as an LS we're aiming for only 1 materia per slot too.
The problem here is your utter lack of appreciation for materia-craft. You come off as someone who hasn't participated in making materia, gathering a catalyst, or melding materia onto a weapon/armor. Correct me if I'm wrong there. Really doubt I am though, as someone who had wouldn't be running around saying gear with 3 materia should pale in comparison to raid gear.
M2/M3 gear is not easier to get than Ifrit weapons, unless you enhance your weapon with 2-3 tier 1 materias. Even that is rather tough due to low success, but such a weapon wouldn't surpass Ifrit weapons anyway. Do your research.
The raid gear is far from useless. They often have effects on them per slot that no materia can fit on. As an example, I believe the Sipahi Turban has a -enmity effect, whereas -enmity materia can only be affixed to DoM weapons or a belt. One can tell from this that in order to maximize a certain desired effect one may need to mix and match raid gear with materia enhanced crafted gear.
I do know what I'm talking about, Meowie. Do you?
Also, go back and read your post. Why in heaven's name you would want to compare turbo crafting/grinding gear to raiding dungeons is beyond me. Here I thought this discussion was about acquiring materia-enhanced gear vs raid gear. Really, I normally avoid being so confrontational, but the sheer lack of knowledge on your part regarding the amount of time and luck it takes to get materia enhanced gear, especially M2+.... I just couldn't resist to call it out.
That all being said, after giving it some thought I do believe the game could be even more fun if U/U gear could be materia-enhanced - however only materia enhanced and not forbidden. Essentially allow raid gear to host 1 materia, whereas crafted gear can potentially still hold 5. Anyone who manages to get 5 materias onto a single item anyway should not need to switch to anything else for a looooooooong time.
