For the health of the game, they need to take action to streamline the process for new players. This is one of the only MMOs that requires you to go through story content to access new areas. While I love the storyline part of that design, it's not good for the future of the game. What happens when we're 10 expansions down the line? We will never get new blood if we make them take months and months to reach the expansion area they were first interested in.
Exactly. Unfortunately, streamlining ARR would be an expensive endeavor. While not ideal, a jump potion is the most cost efficient means of allowing accessibility without impacting veteran players. Yes, we'll have inexperienced players in DF, but that will inevitably settle itself. People genuinely interested in the game will learn and those who aren't will eventually quit. For the health of the game, they need to take action to streamline the process for new players. That wouldn't help things. The problem here isn't the levels - it's the slog through the story quest that's required to do ANYTHING in the game. The only thing selling level potions or modifying the experience curve would do is make it so I'm level 60 working through ARR story instead of level 54.
Why can't they just remove the lock on the lvl 50 quest going into Ishgard? You can still have it you need to level from 1 to 50 and learn how to play your class. Removing the need to do the quests seems fair to me, especially if you're like some people I know who don't give an utter toss about you, any NPC or the dungeons. All they want to do is gathering and professions. :P
They could just make it you have to level to 30 and do the main arc until you're a Scion and you have your battle-chicken; after that you're free to further your goals with them, or help the nation via dungeons, gathering, the grand company etc... That, and you don't get any of the mounts, mini-pets or titles unless you do the story. That way anyone who did do the entire story arc is still a spesheru snowflake-u!

This is like putting Mike Tyson Punch out in a Nintendo and turning it on and being like "Wait. I have to learn this game and beat all these other people to be able to fight Mike Tyson?" "No thanks. Im out" Is this really what gamers want these days? omg
It keeps the bots out and as long as SE keeps implementing requirements to enter new expansion areas, eventually the Gil sellers will find it harder to sell Gil because the new items will be the more demanding and not Gil. Perhaps they introduce a new type of currency in 4.0 Gil seller will never be able to get their hands on it with their bots. I hope 4.0 has some kind of restriction to prevent bots from entering like 3.0 does.
Not seeing a bot in 3.0 is nice, no one spamming for you to buy their Gil.
Welcome to the world of instant gratification and the pathetic casual; who expects everything for nothing because..well, 'They haz busy livez!'
In the past we had the brainpower to understand that if you make commitments - thats a choice. Something that you pay for with time. If people dont have that time for other things because of other responsibilities - boohoo, that's on them. The game shouldn't be forced to change to fit their whims and they certainly shouldn't be allowed to ruin games for others; just because of their own selfishness and concept of personal priorities. It's about time people were forced to work for what they have again. Instead of being given free welfare hand outs because they lack the fortitude to even survive a 30 second youtube clip without falling asleep. The genre has become an apathetic joke. Much like western society en-mass.

If a game is designed with it in mind...
You don't need to have a leveling system at all to provide a good experience.
