Gimme blue mage. I'd love to hold out, prolonging the fights, hoping the lil buggers will pull off that skill i need to aquire, then shove it back in their face when i aquire it.
Jobs aren't making this game ffxi..... its making it FF.

It's just a shame most skills used by enemies in this game are so damn boring, or I'd be totally behind blue mage at this point.
Doesn't the story specifically state that we have the potential to summon them? It's more that you'd bind yourself to one primal and hate all the others, though that could change in the future. I could see it turning into some situation where we slay the primals then revive them at a later point to help vs. the Garleans and dalamud or whatever, under the condition they help us... Purely a guess at this point.

The main exception was Tina, whom was basically an Esper herself. It's why we need a continuation of the story in order to even become a summoner siince currently, nothing is really driving us to allowing it to be a class or job, especially given that we're basically set to kill one of the staple Summons in the series. So unless it all leads to an epic build up of ending up with Carbuncle as our first summon again then we end up summoning a new set, it seems they're tying Primals (summons) a lot more heavily into the story this time around.

Personally I am super excited about the new jobs one thing though I feel like most all of them are already in-game,... Just better versions of ones we have now... Now if they plan to rename current jobs and increase the level cap to add more job specific abilities to fine tune the current jobs into said "new" jobs that would be okay to me. Or my idea of a advanced job "tree system" would be cool too.
So the "new" jobs announced and the jobs they are similar to and would probably make the current ones obsolete.
gladiator >>> paladin
conjurer >>> white mage
thaumaturge >>> black mage
lancer >>> dragoon (minus the pet of course)
pugilist >>> monk
marauder >>> warrior
bard... only one that seems to be kinda new
Now that being said can anyone not see the similarities and feel the new version will kill the old versions?
Like i said rename um raise the cap make new abilities to make them feel more targeted to those classes or my tree system idea, which is as follows:
1. Raise the lvl cap (to o.O 75 yeah i said it)
2. Make the current jobs "base jobs" meaning you HAVE to pick one and lvl it to 50 before you can do quests to unlock that "base jobs" advanced jobs
3. example: you raise marauder to 50. it has 3 advanced jobs it can unlock like: dark knight, samurai, Warrior you do the quest and can now switch to that class which will start you at lvl50 and as you lvl "dark knight" start giving you dark knight specific abilities.
REcap: To me that way you don't just kill the current jobs and you get more balanced roles.
Just my thoughts.

Yeah I expect it will be quite a while before we see them, for one thing we haven't really encountered enough beastmen races to get the 'full set' as it were. I do hope the designs of the other primals are feral looking like Ifrit, to suit their nature. The story is two-fold, since summoners throughout history FF history were capable of summoning multiple either through trials or training, i.e Rydia.

The only exception I could see is FFXIII when each character could summon 1 esper, like snow had Shiva, lightning had Odin, fang had Bahamut, Hope has Alexander. The story is two-fold, since summoners throughout history FF history were capable of summoning multiple either through trials or training, i.e Rydia.

But on the whole I do believe if they release summoner you should beable to summon all primals they introduce, also they could later on say that we only sevearly wounded the primals, not killed them there is alot they could do with the current story.
