The dummies have no actual mechanics. They don't teach anything. You either beat it or you don't. But what happens if you don't? What could you possibly "learn" from it except that you are just not measuring up. So what happens when the player masters the dummy, but then they get into the raid and still don't perform well?

I propose a guildhest type training ground. In order to keep your mentor status, you must make so many runs a week with a new (or new to raid) player. Only they can damage the mobs inside. Mentor is there to guide them through and provide advice if the player can't meet the dps checks. Mentor should stay until player has actually LEARNED something. This is the whole point of the mentor program.

This would have the additional effect of showing us whether mentors are there for the "prestige" or whether they are actually interested in doing the things that the title demands.

I like the idea personally. I sit and watch dps try out for my friends static all the time, who have 220+ ilv, and they cant even clear the Nid-ex SSS Dummy. That's pathetic, and should be proof they have no business being in EX content. EX content doesn't advance story line. So that's a dead point. A dps that doesn't know its rotations and cant clear the SSS is like a Mute holy man showing up for an exorcism with no book and holywater. Its a sick joke that drags down EX content. #CarryMeSenpai and #FairySnowFlakes needs to stop; and do their jobs or enjoy scrub lord content like the low potential players they are.

Learning the rotations and proper dps output is the first step at getting better. So your wrong on that, it does teach them something. It teaches them their rotation. Next step like you said is learning to do it in actual content. So forcing the SSS on people to do EX content is beneficial. Any attempt to deny is just b.s to protect peoples feelings.

Can you tell me how dummies teach someone to do a rotation? Because they don't. They, at the very best, show you that you are doing the wrong rotation, or that you are ungeared, or whatever the case may be. But they don't TEACH you anything.

I tried to include it in my last post, but I was out of characters, so I will say here, the suggestion that dummies should be used as a dps check is merely a way of excluding players. It is not a tool to help them at all.

I, like Imoen, am not opposed to some sort of pre-raiding dps check, I just don't think the dummies are the solution.

Sure they are, If you have access to Final Fantasy 14, you have access to google. there are dozens of guides for every class. They will spell our your rotation for you like their 5 years old, then all you have to do is repeat it till you kill the dummy. OR better yet, Gods forbid someone have to keep trying and changing up their skill combinations until they pass it. That's why its called a Test. God forbid people don't want to hold peoples hands and teach them, The human mind is an amazing thing, it allows people to think, trial and error, until they get it right. Gods forbid we want people to use their damn brain.
