The speed of the dungeon and nature of it leaves little to no time to actually learn or even use the skills for the job you are playing.
For example, in the dungeon I played Summoner at level 60. I had access to a ton of new skills, with really little opportunity to learn how to use them.
What is this Dreadwyrm thing? And this other dreadwrym thing? And this new buff I acquired? (I did figure it out though)
I actually see this as a love/hate thing. I definitely can see the "hate" part of it, but with me the "love" comes from that very same thing though. It's kind of a "try it before you buy it", just getting the levels quick, enough for a small taste of what that class/job is like. Then you could decide whether or not you'd want to commit yourself to UGH!ing your way to 60, without having to actually do it first and then finding out the class/job wasn't all it's cracked up to be (for me, this would be the dragoon class). A real time saver.

I think you can achieve some basic level of competency at it if you look at the job abilities in advance, a guide, or a YouTube video. Doing that, I was completely not surprised when my MCH got gauss barrel in there. I'm not saying you'll know how to masterfully hit the perfect opener just as soon as you get an ability, but you can certainly know what to do in advance. The real draw, of course, is getting to see if you like how something feels to play. That's something I wouldn't have been able to accurately gauge about gauss barrel without trying it.
